2010 Cobalt A25

Reviewed by Richard Crowder

Cobalt A25

The Toronto International Boat Show was the world’s premier showing and public introduction of Cobalt’s newest offering, the A25 bowrider which neatly fits between its twenty-four and twenty-six foot models in its ten boat Sport Boat series ranging from over twenty-one feet to over thirty feet in length. Cobalt, long renowned for its luxurious offerings, also produces a Water Sports series of six models from twenty-one to twenty-six feet, and a Cruiser and Yacht series from over thirty feet to almost forty-seven feet.

To the casual observer, the most noticeable feature on the new A25 is the unique outer contours of the hull sides. In order for a fibreglass hull to be removed from its mold, the shape must be convex, or at a minimum, flat. The A25 has gorgeously sculpted concave hull sections which involved an extremely complicated system of a five-part, bolt together mold in order to create it. The result is not only stunningly beautiful and unique but also extra strong with its Kevlar™ reinforcement.

And in typical Cobalt fashion, the entire A25 from bow to stern is both stunning and awe inspiring in its quality and attention to detail with extensive use of stainless steel trim and fittings throughout. Seating upholstery is of the finest quality yet buttery soft and smooth and French-stitched to perfection. The aft lounge has a three-position backrest to allow rear or forward positioning, as does the passenger lounge seat. The helm seat swivels. The bow area side seats have flip-up and stow sections to complete the area as you desire. All seating has protected and finished storage below. The dash is understated elegance with its wood and ebony inserts and leather-wrapped wheel.

Unique options such as a hydraulic extended swim platform, retractable quick-tie mooring line system, onboard air compressor for inflatable watertoys, and “water weave” cockpit carpeting are all available along with a full complement of the usual options. A total of eight V-8 sterndrive power choices from MerCruiser and Volvo Penta from 300 to 425 HP allow you to satisfy any on-water requirements. Cobalt once again raises the bar in family boating with this new A25.
