2010 Doral Boca Grande

Reviewed by Richard Crowder

Doral Boca Grande

From its modest beginnings as one of Canada’s first fibreglass boat-building companies, Doral has grown exponentially, both in its model line-up and geographically, until today it is doing business in thirty-two countries worldwide with models ranging from family runabouts to sport yachts over fifty feet in length.

The Boca Grande has been a stalwart model in Doral’s line-up for many years and has evolved into one of its most popular express cruisers. And for good reason. It is designed for the family – for cruising and for on-board entertaining with every imaginable amenity either standard or available.

A huge extended swim platform with transom and fender storage leads to a conversation and entertaining-friendly cockpit with loads of plush seating. To minimize canvas, choose the optional hardtop with skylights. Cockpit amenities include a fridge or icemaker, table, plus a refreshment area with bar. Upgrade the cockpit floor with teak inserts or Nuteak® PVC flooring.

The green tinted, translucent sliding companionway door leading to the cabin has both a screen and privacy curtain. The spacious, open and air-conditioned/heated cabin below has well over six feet of headroom offering a greater feeling of space. Storage abounds and the decor is elegant. The well-equipped galley features an apartment-sized refrigerator/freezer, two-burner electric stove, microwave oven, refreshment centre with bar, icemaker, and coffee maker.

The forward stateroom hosts a queen-sized island bed with Ultra Suede® finish, a flatscreen TV & DVD, make-up cabinet, and lots of storage. The U-shaped cabin dinette converts to a berth as does the aft-cabin dinette/settee. The head compartment has lots of elbow room and a Vacuflush® toilet is standard.

There is a full array of options available from Doral to personalize your Boca Grande exactly according to your boating choices. Choose from a whopping eighteen different engine and drive possibilities in gasoline or diesel from Volvo, MerCruiser, Cummins-MerCruiser, or Yanmar. Then choose the generator to match in gasoline or diesel. Load up with stereo upgrades and with navigation electronics from Raymarine®. Various interior cosmetic and decorative upgrades are also available as is a selection of canvas coverings and exterior hull colours and graphics, plus much, much more.
