2010 Starcraft Super Fisherman 170 Sport

Reviewed by Richard Crowder

Starcraft Super Fisherman 170 Sport

Starcraft’s Super Fisherman 170 Sport, introduced last year, is one of only two Super Fisherman models out of a total of forty-four aluminum fishing boats from Jon boats, to canoes, to utility boats, to pro camp boats made by this, one of the oldest names in boating.

Starcraft is proud of its aluminum boat manufacturing techniques including its use of 5052 H34 marine grade aluminum, machine-formed ribs with Torsion Beam Construction (TBC) stringer system combined with a one-piece hull bottom without center seam, double riveted seams, and foam injection between the floor and hull.

In the cockpit, three movable pedestal seats are provided with a total of six mounting locations including one each for the bow and stern casting platform areas. The helm seat is on a slider. Storage is found both in the stern and in the floor. Marine grade carpet is standard, snap-in is optional. The dual helm consoles support a high, curved, walk-thru windshield. The molded captain’s console in front of a custom tilt steering wheel with hydraulic steering contains easily-readable large tachometer and speedometer and smaller diameter fuel gauge and voltmeter. A selection of optional fish locators is available depending on your needs. An AM/FM stereo with an auxiliary MP3 port with two speakers is standard as is a locking glove box on the portside console.

A 136 litre aerated stern livewell with threaded Sure Lock standpipe is standard equipment as are courtesy lights and a power point. A bow trolling motor plug is optional as is the trolling motor itself. The transom is stepped to provide for easy mounting of a kicker motor in that location. A trailer with swing-away tongue is standard with the Super Fisherman 170 Sport and you can choose from several additional trailering options to suit your particular needs. A swim platform with ladder is optional as is a full selection of canvas possibilities from a top with storage boot, to a mooring cover, to a bow tonneau cover, to a side curtain set, aft curtain, and a walk-thru curtain.
