2013 Princecraft Xpedition 200 SC
Boat Review by: Richard Crowder
Canadian made Princecraft Boats, Inc. of Princeville, Quebec, offers forty-three models of aluminum fishing boats, utility, cartop and jon boats in nine series for 2013 ranging from ten to twenty feet. Princecraft also offers a staggering thirty-four models of aluminum pontoon and deck boats from fifteen to twenty-nine feet.
The Xpedition 200 SC subject of this review is one of five models in the Xpedition series of fishing boats which includes one seventeen foot backtroller plus a windshield and side console model in both seventeen and twenty feet. The twenty foot 200 SC (side console) and 200 WS (windshield – or dual console) models, on 7’8” beams, are virtually identical in all other respects. As you may expect, at 1463 pounds and without a full windshield and passenger side console, the 200 SC is lighter than the 200 WS by 86 pounds.
Princecraft describes its Xpedition series as, “Just like a pro, at an affordable price.” The intention is to offer a standard model reasonably equipped for normal fishing needs that may then be optioned up with over two dozen factory options to make the Xpedition exactly what you want for specifically the type of fishing and/or recreational boating you plan to do.
Dedicated compartments from general storage to specific fishing needs fill almost every nook and cranny on the 200 SC. The large bow casting platform which extends all the way from beside the control console forward contains six such compartments alone, two of which are covered general storage of which the largest is lockable, dry, and alternatively usable as a cooler. Another compartment is intended for an auxiliary trolling motor battery. An open storage compartment is located beneath the platform on the port side opposite the control console. On the forward port side of the bow platform is a 30-inch, 64-litre, electric, aerated SportFlo™ livewell with post-overflow, thru-hull drain, anti-spill cover, removable divider, and an insulated lid. Finally, the centre portion of the platform contains a lockable rod organizer storage compartment with tubes for ten rods.
The stern casting platform is itself filled with more storage compartments – five in total, the largest being a 44-inch, 77-litre SportFlo™ livewell with all the features described above except the removable divider. Beside it is the main covered battery storage compartment. Four battery holders in total are provided. The centre forward portion of this stern platform contains more covered storage and the two fold-down jump seats beside it both have storage below. In the folded position, the stern platform size increases. Finally, both the port and starboard side coamings contain storage for long items – dedicated with supports for four fishing rods on the port side, and for general items on the starboard side.
Six seat bases are provided in the normally expected locations to accommodate the two standard pedestal folding seats. You may optionally purchase more of these seats, or bicycle seats with 27” posts, or even opt for a tilt steering mechanism which gives you a slider on the driver’s seat. The driver’s side console includes a smoked windscreen with quick release plus a speedometer, tachometer, and fuel gauge as standard along with the normal complement of DC switches in a smart looking molded panel. Since Princecraft is a Brunswick Company, the 200 SC may be packaged with a Mercury® outboard motor up to 250 hp. This then allows you to move up to SmartCraft™ gauges and even a Mercury 9.9 BF 4-stroke kicker engine.
With an under flooring bow to stern rigging tube supplied along with carpeted bow mounting trolling motor pad, you can choose from a total of six trolling motors – three each from MotorGuide or Minn Kota, in 12, 24, or 36 volts. Princecraft provides the plug and receptacle standard to accommodate all three voltages. Standard also, is the PrinceTrak System extrusion along the inner gunwale which allows you to then choose various attachments such as rod, cup, or tool holders.
Other notable options available for the 200 SC include two choices of Lowrance® fish/depth sounders, downrigger supports, battery charger, wash down system, complete stand-up top and enclosure, mooring or trailer cover, an AM/FM/Bluetooth stereo which itself may then be further upgraded, and if you want some watersports fun too, choose the waterski pylon and stern boarding ladder. To complete the package, add the Princecraft tandem axle trailer designed to fit the 200 SC.
