As the newest member of Monterey’s popular nine model Super Sport bowrider series ranging from twenty-one to thirty-two feet, the 258 Super Sport is not only sized right in the middle of this series but Monterey refers to it as, “the sexiest member of the family.”

It joins this Williston, Florida’s offerings of thirty-three models for 2016 ranging from eighteen to thirty-seven feet in six series of sport boats, surf & watersports boats, two outboard powered bowriders, plus cruisers and yachts. All of Monterey’s boats are covered by its MVP lifetime limited hull and deck warranty which is transferrable up to ten years.

Monterey is certainly pushing all the right buttons with this newest Super Sport with its deep, safe cockpit fully surrounded with padded bolsters and seating throughout plus its extra large, close to the water integrated swim platform complete with a recessed and covered telescoping stainless steel boarding ladder.

At 25-feet, 1-inch length overall including swim platform on an 8-foot, 6-inch beam, the 258 Super Sport rides on Monterey’s 20-degree deep-vee, Air Assist hull which comes standard with a hull bottom vinylester barrier coat. It also comes standard with your choice of eight hull side colours and deck stripe or you can opt for a coloured hull bottom, Extreme graphics, or four choices of Super Sport “X” Package graphics which also include complementary hull bottom colour, deck and hull accenting, plus interior upholstery accent piping.

Driver and passenger both get to enjoy swivel, adjustable bucket seats with flip-up forward bolsters. Aft of the driver’s bucket is a single aft or side facing seat and along the port side aft of the passenger bucket is a full-length L-shaped lounge stretching across the stern to the starboard side gated transom walk-thru to the swim platform.

The seat cushion of the stern portion of this lounge is level with the large double-wide transom sunpad. The hinged seatback of this stern seat can flip forward one position to facilitate aft-facing lounging or flip right forward to a horizontal position to create what Monterey calls its Sun Island Feature. In addition, a hinged cushion within this sunpad lifts up to permit aft-facing seating over the transom. A full-width raised stainless steel safety/grab rail protects the aft side of this sunpad.

Bow seating is U-shaped with full surround side bolsters, finished storage beneath the seat cushions and includes a molded, built-in cooler. A foredeck anchor locker is provided and a bow boarding ladder is optionally available as are bow filler cushions.

The passenger helm is fitted with a privacy head compartment complete with a vanity with sink and pull-out sprayer/shower wand, Porta-Potti, and synthetic wood flooring. The driver’s helm console comes with a built-in storage compartment complete with a hanging rod, trash receptacle, plus handy dock line retainer straps.

The driver’s helm itself is attractive and modern with its top-stitching finish and comes complete with a fog-resistant sterndrive gauge package with low-glare night lighting, plus a depth sounder, MP3 adapter, 12-volt power plug, and a stereo remote. Tilt steering is standard. The centre of the dash between the two large diameter gauges is reserved for the “must-have” optional flush-mount chartplotter/GPS/sonar unit.

Powering the 258 Super Sport is your choice of a MerCruiser or Volvo 300 or 350 horsepower engine with Bravo III or Duo-Prop outdrive respectively with optional DTS (Digital Throttle and Shift) or EVC (Electronic Vessel Control) respectively. You can even choose the new Forward-Facing Volvo Duo-Prop sterndrive.

Other notable standard equipment includes a bimini top, carry-on 48-quart cooler with dedicated storage, blue/white LED courtesy lighting, Fusion AM/FM satellite-ready stereo with iPod dock and four speakers, storage under all seat cushions and within the side panels plus an in-floor storage locker plus a transom wakeboard storage locker, transom tilt switch, walk-thru bow door, and ski-tow eye.

Notable optional equipment includes an electric, folding white or black fibreglass radar arch, stereo upgrade package, arch speakers, transom stereo remote, mooring, bow and cockpit covers, snap-in cockpit carpet or inlay or woven flooring, cockpit table with bow and stern mounts, transom cold-only shower, and a cockpit wet bar with sink and cooler.

Also available are a battery charger, automatic fire extinguishing system, anchor windlass, auto-retract trim tabs with indicators, portable swim platform propane grill, screened opening portlight in the head compartment, electric head, underwater lights, swim platform inlay, plus a stainless steel package which includes pull-up cleats, docking lights, and hand bow rails, etc

The 258 Super Sport is indeed a sexy addition to Monterey’s Super Sport lineup.
