Boat Review by: Richard Crowder
Cruisers Yachts is one of three premium boat brands of privately owned KCS International, Inc. of Oconto, Wisconsin. Since its first introduction, the Cantius model concept has become increasingly popular and important for Cruisers Yachts and so for 2018, there are now five Cantius models including the 50. The other four are the 42, 45, 54, and 60 with the latter two also being available in a flybridge configuration.
Since the model’s inception, virtually every Cantius is readily recognizable by the extent and size of both port and starboard hullside windows. Since the Cantius concept incorporates the helm, dinette, salon, and galley all on the yacht’s main level with a level floor right from the windshield aft through the aft salon glass enclosure and through to the transom, the lower level is reserved primarily for overnight accommodation.
In the case of the 50 Cantius, three staterooms are standard as are two heads. The aft master stateroom is most commodious stretching the full 15-foot beam and made more open in feeling with the expansive fixed hullside windows adding so much natural brightness plus outward visibility. A full walk-around island bed is flanked by a pair of nightstands. Included is a vanity plus a lounge and two built-in seats with cafe table, plus of course a large hanging locker. Wall mirrors plus decorative stone detailing complete the stylish serenity.
An entertainment centre with built-in television and audio system is of course provided here. Add optional custom fitted sheets and pillow cases plus a washer/dryer if desired. Expansive mirrors plus wood detailing, lighting, and designer fixtures enhance the master head with its separate walk-in, glass-door shower. A centrifuge head is standard. A custom towel package is available.
The forward guest stateroom features a walk-around queen berth plus hullside windows adding a sense of brightness and openness. The guest head is actually two separate areas with the head with vanity in one and the walk-in shower in another. A third stateroom on the starboard side features dual bunk beds, storage, and a hullside window for brightness. Optional televisions are available for each of these guest staterooms.
The helm of the 50 Cantius is modern yet straightforward with digital controls and standard joystick for the standard twin Volvo D6, 435 horsepower, 600 IPS diesels with Electronic Vessel Control. Choose from Raymarine or Volvo Glass Cockpit twin screens, both systems providing complete engine and navigational information. You can also choose a port or starboard (or both) remote transom joystick control as well as an Automatic Stabilizing System and a Dynamic Positioning System.
Given the complete wrap-around windows of the 50 Cantius, visibility from the double wide helm seat with forward flip-up bolster and armrests is remarkable and a full 360 degrees. An overhead powered sunroof plus cabin side opening windows add fresh air when wanted.
Opposite the helm is a raised U-shaped convertible lounge cum dinette with a solid wood, three section table. Aft of the dinette is the U-shaped galley perfectly positioned to serve both the salon and the cockpit. Stainless steel-fronted appliances include a refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, ice-maker, glass cooktop, plus a combination microwave / induction grill. Opposite the galley is a starboard side settee plus a salon entertainment centre with television.
A powered opening glass bulkhead window immediately aft of the galley presents instant access from the galley to the cockpit for entertaining. Abutting this window to its starboard is a bi-fold glass door thus allowing the salon to be fully segregated from or fully integrated with the cockpit. A centered, standard U-shaped cockpit transom lounge with fixed solid wood table may be optionally upgraded with a hi-low table with filler cushions to create a sunlounge. Opposite this and just aft of the galley window opening you may optionally choose a pair of bar stools or an aft-facing settee. Cockpit ice-maker and/or refrigerator are optionally available.
Port and starboard molded-in staircases lead to the standard extended swim platform. Within the transom at this level is a storage compartment plus a transom built-in cooking grill. A hydraulic platform with unique automatically deploying “Sea Stairs” is optionally available. Twin bow lounges with adjustable backrests and complete with a retractable cockpit table are standard.
Other notable options include a 15 kW generator, central vacuum system, dockside galvanic isolation transformer, choices of swim platform, cockpit, and deck coverings, underwater lighting, hi-gloss wood interior, and a foredeck sunshade. Cruisers Yachts calls the 50 Cantius, “The perfect marriage of luxury and function in a space that accommodates you, friends and family in unexcelled comfort.” That statement very accurately describes this gorgeous yacht.
