formula 24 br main

This newly redesigned Formula 240 Bowrider is the smallest of six models in Formula’s Bowrider series ranging to thirty-one feet. Formula offers a total of ten series and multiple models of Bowriders, Sport Boats, Crossovers, Cruisers, Yachts, and Performance boats up to forty-five feet.

Formula is one of those few boat manufacturers of which you can almost detect as you approach it from a dock that it is a Formula simply by the quality and class and distinction of its fit and finish and upholstery, its design and its hardware. The 240 BR, subject of this review, lives up to that reputation in all respects.

It's oh so smooth and solid riding deep-vee hull with twenty-degrees of deadrise is finished with top quality Ashland Maxguard™ LE white gelcoat with three choices of standard hullside graphics packages with Axalta™ Chroma Premier® basecoat and Imron® Elite clearcoat. Five optional Flagship graphics packages are available along with ten choices of hullside prime and accent colour choices.

The integrated swim platform offers a concealed swim ladder plus a handy boarding assistance rail. For even greater watersports enjoyment, opt for one of two choices of extended swim platforms, one of which has an under mount swim seat, boarding step, plus two molded-in drinkholders. A transom mounted grab rail contains a waterski tow eye. A port side transom walk-thru is adjacent to an aft-facing sun lounge with dual-position backrest and trunk storage below where you will find a 12- volt accessory outlet.

Two more dual-position backrests are found in the cockpit to add seating flexibility. The double-wide and articulating helm seat has one to allow aft-facing seating and the passenger seat has one to convert that seat into an aft-facing lounge with a trash container beneath the seat. A stern seat continues along the interior starboard hull side to meet the helm seat to create a U-shaped seating area with molded-in cooler beneath the seat. Taken together, an all-round conversation area is created.

The passenger console features a head compartment with porta-potti, storage counter, and three choices of woodgrain-finish flooring. A manual porcelain head with holding tank is optionally available as is a vanity and sink with on-board fresh water system which also gives you a transom shower. This console also holds the Clarion AM/FM stereo with iPod and Bluetooth connectability, a USB port and complete with a 400 Watt amplifier and six speakers. Five additional USB charging ports are found throughout the 240 BR.

The molded fibreglass driver’s helm in your choice of Charcoal or Mocha has high gloss black and dark woodgrain finished panels fitted with high end Livorsi gauges with polished stainless rims, a digital depth sounder, dual USB charging ports, Bennett trim tab switches with indicators, plus a smartphone dash pocket with iPod™ and MP3 port. A Dino™ tilt wheel with burl and brushed metallic accents completes the picture.

The bow seating area is deep and modular in that it can be fully surrounding and using the front of the console cushioned padding as backrests for lounging or a port side seat cushion may be removed to allow forward facing seating on that side. Storage is found beneath all other seat cushions. The foredeck anchor locker may be optionally equipped with a fold-out telescoping boarding ladder with grab rail. An in-floor storage locker is ideal for watersports accessories.

Single sterndrive power from 250 to 430 horsepower from MerCruiser, Volvo Penta, or Ilmor is available. Formula shows that top speed with this power range varies from about 40 to almost 60 mph. Within the powered engine hatch comes standard automatic fire extinguishing system, fume detector, a 20-amp battery charger, and courtesy lighting.

Additional standard equipment includes Formula logo cast stainless steel mooring cleats, transom stereo remote, combination blue and white cockpit and swim platform LED courtesy lighting, and woven cockpit mat.

Available additional optional equipment includes a windshield wiper, LED docking lights, a removable waterski/wakeboard pylon, a custom stainless steel sport arch with mast light and wakeboard mount or the ultimate Samson Sports Razor wakeboard tower with two rotating board racks, LED anchor light/swivel-head mount, two halogen tower lights, two amplified Samson 720™ quick-release speakers plus a Cipa Xtreme three-lens mirror.

In addition, you may choose woodgrain vinyl decking on the swim platform, VHF radio, Garmin® 54cv chartplotter, JL Audio® blue LED lighted speakers with a 200 Watt subwoofer, Sirius™ satellite radio, remote control fob for courtesy lights, cockpit table, bow filler cushions, 12-volt air compressor, bow and cockpit covers, bimini top with or without a full enclosure, transom gate, and Captain’s Call™ exhaust system.

Even with all of the above choices, you could in addition go with FormulaFlex where you can choose your interior and upholstery colors and your cabin fabrics and surfaces. You can even decide where you want certain pieces of equipment to be located. All of this means you’ll never see a Formula 24-foot Bowrider that’s quite like yours. That is all part of the Formula prestige.
