Boat Review by: Richard Crowder
SunCatcher, a Yamaha Boat Company, offers 34 models of pontoon boats from sixteen to twenty-six feet in four series. The V324 SE, the largest model in the V series and the subject of this review, is the three log version of its sister V24 SE which is the same size and has an identical layout but with one less pontoon and with a lower horsepower rating.
The V324 SE is designed for relaxing family fun-times on the water with standard onboard amenities to help meet and satisfy these objectives. The most visible of these amenities is found in the “SE” designation in the model name which refers to “Stern Entertainment” comprising two luxurious Captain’s chairs mounted on the aft port side of the deck and facing an extended counter top with drink holders on each end and perfect for laying out and serving those party snacks to all on board.
These high back chairs have folding armrests and recline and swivel thus providing the ultimate in comfort and relaxation. This stern entertainment centre can become the focus of conversation and memorable good times at your favourite anchorage or while cruising as it is located just aft of a comfortable three or four-person L-shaped couch complete with a standard floor-mounted ABS removable table with recessed cupholders. The identical swivelling, reclining Captain’s chair with folding armrests facing the starboard side driver’s helm can readily swivel to join in on the activities surrounding this entertainment centre while at the dock or at anchor.
The bow area of the V324 SE provides two facing couches cum loungers each providing comfortable seating for three or four persons. All couches have Roto-molded bases with full storage beneath the seat cushions and rain-drain channels built into the bottom of the cushions to help keep stored items dry. In all with the three couches and three Captain’s chairs, the V324 SE can readily accommodate the passenger carrying rating of twelve persons.
The molded and functional starboard side driver’s console offers the aforementioned high back, adjustable captain’s chair facing a custom tilt steering wheel with standard hydraulic steering. The dash offers four Faria gauges; two large ones for tachometer and speedometer flanking two smaller gauges for fuel and motor trim. Below these and to the left is the control for the standard MP3 compatible Jensen® stereo with iPod® and Bluetooth® connectability. A 12-volt DC accessory outlet is supplied. More storage is found within this console and would be ideal for a portable cooler.
To allow full personalization of your on-water sanctuary, SunCatcher offers three metallic exterior fence colour choices in white, black, or charcoal onto which you choose from eight choices of colour graphics along with six choices of interior accent colour choices, four canvas colour choices, and an amazing fifteen choices of interior floor covering options including carpet, vinyl, “teak”, and Seagrass. Chances are that no two V324 SE’s on your lake would ever look the same.
Since the V324 SE is by model designation a three log design, you not only get as standard equipment the third centre log, but all three logs are SunCatcher’s twenty-three by twenty-five inch “performance” logs with closed cell foam flotation and of higher .100 gauge construction with .125 gauge nosecones. Also standard equipment is a full length under deck performance shield plus performance lifting strakes on the pontoons.
A more comprehensive and higher range of Yamaha outboard power is also available with this three-log design providing eleven choices of motors from 90 to 225 horsepower. You also get a larger capacity fuel tank with this third log and an in-floor storage locker suitable for waterskis, a wakeboard, tube, or other watersports accessories.
Aft of the stern starboard side entry gate, one of three onboard, is a swim deck complete with a standard four-step telescoping stainless steel boarding ladder. Other notable standard equipment includes floor level courtesy lights, a ski tow bar, and a bimini top with storage boot. Notable available options include a powder coated or galvanized tandem axle trailer plus available accessories, a couch insert, pop-up change room, Simrad® or Lowrance® GPS/fishfinder, bimini radar arm, bow bimini, mooring cover, refreshment center with cooler, and speaker upgrade.
The SunCatcher V324 SE pontoon boat is truly the answer for total on-water family satisfaction and gratification whether it be for entertaining, cruising, relaxing, partying, or for a variety of watersports activities.
