Lark Tribute “On November 19, 2013, the much-admired Lark was launched at Pender Harbour, BC. She is the proud accomplishment of master craftsman, Zoro Szabados. After retirement as professional plumber and sheet metal worker, Zoro single-handedly gave shape and form to the strikingly beautiful lines of this Herreshoff-designed, blue-water yacht. It took him ten years. The Lark was Zoro’s third wooden hull yacht and his proudest achievement. Into it he poured the skills, experience and thoroughness acquired over a lifetime of learning to make his hands patiently follow the dictates of his mind. There is nothing cheap about the Lark. It consists of the finest, hand-selected materials, hardware and most up-to-date methods. Every decision was carefully considered and deeply researched. Also, Zoro was a dedicated sailor. He knew what was needed. He understood the enormous strain of wind and waves on wood. The Lark is exceptionally well-built and it has beauty. Being a double-ender, she is like a whale, made for water. Her pleasing appearance always elicits heartfelt compliments. When superb functionality and beauty meet, the result is class, distinction, and joy. To Zoro, having crafted each piece with his own hands, seeing that it works well, each part answering the purpose for which it was made and the whole embodying his total energy, his utmost capability, the Lark was supreme satisfaction and joy.” Nick Loenen, author of Wooden Boat Building, How to Build a Dragon Class Sailboat. Friesen Press, 2012 Last surveyed May/2018 n aspects of wood construction and installation with great care and at- tention to detail throughout.
