1960 20' wood Greavette. Inboard Buchanan original engine. Single owner for the past 47 years. It has been maintained with care and passion (it was often checked on during a storm at 3 am, dare I say "babied"). A wood boat must be used or the wood dries out. This boat has been used as the main boat for a water access cottage every year (with the exception of 2020) and it takes on very little water (there is always a bit as it is a wood boat). It normally stays under a canopy out of the sun during the season and is stored inside during the offseason. The engine was professionally serviced in 2021 and only needed a new belt and 2 new impellers. The battery is brand new in 2021. Our family has loved this boat but wood boats need maintenance and due to health issues the owner is no longer able to maintain it.
The pros: This boat turns heads. Almost every single time we're in town, which is a few times a week, someone asks about the boat or comments on it. You can literally see people turning to watch the boat as you glide by. It is wood which is beautiful, unusual and interesting. It has original instruments, steering wheel and engine. The sound is beautiful. It has the low rumble of an inboard. The original engine is, actually, a car engine which makes sourcing parts fairly easy. It has been cared for like a baby. The hull is painted so you can paint it whatever colour you like, currently black.
The cons: It is wood which needs a lot of maintenance every year. The decks were given a quick sanding and a coat of varnish in 2021 but they need a full redo with new caulking. The canvas will need to be replaced within the next 5 years or so. We think they were last done in the 90's. There is a small crack in the transom above the water line that will need to be addressed within a few years. It does not have a trailer.
Location: It is located in Killarney, ON (about 4 hours north of Canada's Wonderland in Toronto, we've timed it). It is located at a cottage and we're happy to bring it into Killarney for you to see it and drive it. The current caretakers of the boat are not yet retired so we have to plan when we can show it to you but someone will be there a lot this spring and summer 2022. There are lot's of options for hiring someone to trailer it to where-ever you like.
If you want a wood boat that is a bit of a project then this is the boat for you.
