Just as a pocket or mini-cruiser increases in size to be called a mid-cabin cruiser, so when the latter increases in size, generally considered to be greater than about fifty or sixty feet in length, it is called an express yacht.
The principles of design and performance remain however even as the size increases. These are generally the fastest of large live-aboard cruisers but still have only two levels: the cockpit which includes the single helm location, and the cabin area below and forward, similar to their smaller cousins. Full and luxurious live-aboard facilities and amenities are standard and many of these yachts are custom built and outfitted to an owner’s specific requirements. All are multi-engine diesel inboard powered with V or pod or straight drives and sometimes even jet or surface drives.
