Cobalt’s BR series of seven models of luxury bowriders from almost 26-feet on an 8’6” beam up to almost 35-feet on a 10’7” beam includes the new for 2016 R30, which is the largest of the four models within this BR series with the “R” designation. Cobalt says this new R30 is all about space – more space in the cockpit, more space in the bow, even more space in the step-down head compartment cum change room.

The R30 is one of a total of twenty-nine models from almost 21 to almost 35-feet in six series of bowriders, deck styles, cuddy cabins, cruisers plus the WSS Watersports Series offered by this Neodesha, Kansas boat builder for 2016.

The beam of a boat is key to interior roominess in any boat style but especially in bowriders where amount, size, and flexibility of seating is paramount to the maximum enjoyment of day boating. With the wide 9’6” beam in the R30, Cobalt has been able to satisfy all of these factors in spades.

An extra-wide helm seat with standard flip-up bolster fits any driver and could even accommodate two cozy persons. Opposite, the double-wide passenger seat features a flip backrest to allow forward or rear-facing seating. The stern bench seat is a comfortable four-seater with a split flip backrest allowing two persons to face forward while two others can relax while lounging on the rear sundeck. Flipping both halves of this backrest allows lounging for four on the sundeck. The flip-up aft portion of this sundeck also allows four person seating on the cockpit stern seat while another four can still utilize the sundeck as an aft-facing seat. How’s that for flexibility?

The bow seating of the R30 also benefits greatly from the increase in beam with a full length bench cum lounge seat with fold-up armrest to port, a single seat with fold-up armrest to starboard plus a rear facing curved bow seat which could seat two or three comfortably. Recessed stainless steel grab rails are standard as are full-surround thickly cushioned side/back bolster cushions. A rear/side facing single seat is immediately aft of the helm seat.

All seating has finished storage below with Cobalt’s double-knuckle hinged seat cushions allowing hands-free access to the storage compartments. A standard Yeti removable cooler has dedicated storage beneath the aft portion of the cockpit passenger seat. All seat bases are of course of composite construction and Cobalt speaks of the upholstery as “Varadense Comfort.” A cockpit seat filler cushion is standard equipment.

The helm of the R30 is a study in simplicity and beauty with its composite “eyebrow” and custom stitching protecting an etched stainless steel instrument panel from sunlight and weather. Stainless steel switches are standard as is a premium black leather stainless steel steering wheel. The dash is trimmed in what Cobalt calls oil rubbed ebony Macassar. Garmin’s Glass Cockpit 741 with dual GMI 20 touch screens provide on board systems function controls plus navigation. A digital compass, a depth plus water and air temperature gauge package plus an hour meter are also standard. The standard sound system is Bluetooth compatible with iPod/USB/MP3 port, six speakers plus a dash-mounted remote control.

One of the most unusual yet useful and practical and expensive items of standard equipment is the R30’s electric/hydraulic extended swim platform with ladder which is located at rest just a step below the molded platform and which lowers to just below the water level. An electric engine hatch is also standard as are bow walk-thru doors, snap-in cockpit carpeting, and an air compressor with dedicated holder, anchor locker, in-floor ski locker, and ski pylon.

Within the passenger console is a sizable molded fibreglass head compartment cum change room with vanity, storage, stainless sink, porta-potti, skylight, and dual screened ventilation ports. A VacuFlush toilet is optional.

Notable optional equipment includes a black or white metal arch with sunshade or simply choose Cobalt’s Easy-Fold bimini top. Bow, cockpit, and mooring covers are also available as is a Premium sound system, various filler cushions, a dinette table with bow and cockpit receptacles, a cockpit refrigerator, cockpit heater, docking lights, anchor windlass, trim tabs with or without Autoglide, battery charger, single engine cruise control, thru-hull exhaust, transom shower, Sea Grass floor covering, SeaDek swim platform covering, plus several additional courtesy and mood lighting options.

Power is from single or twin MerCruiser or Volvo sterndrive choices starting from single 380 or 430 hp up to twin 380 or 430 horsepower. MerCruiser DTS (Digital Throttle and Shift) or Volvo EVC (Electronic Vessel Control) plus Axius or Joystick twin engine control is optionally available.

Cobalt’s new R30 – functional and fun.
