wellcraft 242 fisherman

The new for 2016 242 Fisherman is one of four new models in Wellcraft’s Center Console series of six models from 18 to 25 feet. In all, Wellcraft, part of Rec Boat Holdings of Cadillac, Michigan, now part of Groupe Beneteau, offers twenty-three models of Center Console, Bay Boats, Sportsman Dual Console, Coastal Walk Arounds, plus Scarab® Offshores from 18 to 35 feet. Scarab® under its own name also offers four models of Rotax powered sport jet boats from 16 to 25 feet.

The 242 Fisherman is standard equipped to cater to both cruising and fishing enthusiasts. For example, unlike many center console boats this size, the 242 Fisherman’s cockpit has side bolsters for added family cruising comfort. Ardent fishermen get not one but two standard bait wells/live wells with high speed pick-ups; one a 40-gallon, the other a 17-gallon, and both with bluecoat, light, and timer.

Standard double-wide, upholstered seating is provided at three locations; a leaning post at the helm, a centre stern bench seat, and one on the front of the console which is provided with high protective powder coated safety/grab rails on both sides. The bench seats have storage and/or insulated coolers built-in beneath the seat cushions.

The entire hinged front section of the console opens upward for entry into the molded finished change room which may be optionally fitted with a porta-potti or an electric head with holding tank. Four rod holders are provided across the top of the transom with more located in the gunnels and on the center console. Gunnel rod storage is also provided as is a handy 5-gallon bucket in a holder plus tackle storage boxes.

A starboard side hinged gate leads from the self-bailing cockpit to the molded integrated swim platform complete with a boarding ladder. Up front, an anchor locker is standard and may be optionally upgraded with an anchor roller, anchor, rope, and chain, and also an anchor windlass. Recessed stainless steel bow safety rails are standard as are pull-up cleats.

For fishing or cruising, not only are lots of beverage holders supplied but also an insulated built-in bow cooler plus a 72-quart portable carry-on cooler which stores neatly under the helm leaning post. Beneath the hinged lids with gas strut assists of both port and starboard side bow casting platforms are insulated fish boxes with overboard draining.

The helm of the 242 Fisherman features a console windscreen, a stainless steel steering wheel with knob, compass, and 12-volt receptacle. Trim tabs are standard as is raw water washdown. There are several individual options you may wish to select here including a GPS chartplotter with depth sounder, tilt steering, VHF radio, Fusion stereo or the Premium Sound System which upgrades the Fusion with amplifier and sub-woofer.

You may also want the bimini top or go for the T-Top with four additional rod holders or go all out and choose the Deluxe T-Top with LED lights, spreader lights, and an electronics box. You may also want the console cover and/or the leaning post upgrade which includes a backrest and even more rod holders.

In addition to seven choices of hullside colours, options include two-tone hullside gel colour scheme, underwater lights, sport seats, helm floor mat package, battery charger, downrigger pre-wiring, a fresh water package which includes a cockpit sink and transom shower, and a custom tandem axle trailer in aluminum or galvanized.

There are four packaged options which would certainly add to your enjoyment of the 242 Fisherman. The Bow Seating Package gives you port and starboard bow seat cushions with backrests. Add to this the Family Package and you get the bow table with filler cushion, sunlounge seating package, plus forward facing backrests.

The Seaside Trim Package provides the aforementioned leaning post upgrade and helm floor mat package plus a beige cockpit interior and Sea Grass flooring. Of course the ultimate upgrade is the Scarab® Offshore Package which includes several of the above cockpit, trim, and seating upgrades plus it adds carbon fibre dash and bezel treatment, a tri-tone gel scheme, plus Scarab® Offshore graphics.

The 242 Fisherman is rated for a maximum of 400 horsepower and you may obtain that from single or twin outboard choices from Evinrude®, Mercury®, or Yamaha®.

For cruising or fishing enthusiasts, this new Wellcraft 242 Fisherman has all the bases covered.
