Boat Review by: Richard Crowder
Crestliner, a Brunswick Boat Company, is one of the most prolific manufacturers of aluminum boats in the marketplace today. Crestliner makes dozens and dozens of different models in several series of both Deep-V and Mod-V boats directed primarily at the fishing, hunting, utility, and resort markets. It also offers several models of pontoon boats.
The all-new for 2018 Outreach series of riveted aluminum, semi-V boats consists of five basic models in roughly twelve, fourteen, and sixteen feet and in Crestliner’s words, “the Outreach’s rugged simplicity makes it ideal for resorts or utility use.” In fact, the Outreach series is part of Crestliner’s “Hunt/Utility” category which offers many, many models in eight different series.
The five different basic Outreach models are the 1668, 1468, 1460, 1458, and 1258 where the first two digits refer to the approximate overall length of the model and the last two digits refer to the beam of the model in inches. The “WT” designation is an available addition to the 1668 and the 1468 basic models and refers to Walk-Thru mid-ship split bench seating.
So the 1468 WT is fourteen feet, three inches length overall on a sixty-eight inch beam. It features a full-width bow bench seat, port and starboard mid-ship bench seats with a centre walk-through between them, plus port and starboard side aft stern seats from which to operate the recommended tiller handled 9.9 to a maximum 25 horsepower Mercury outboard motor.
The “WT” designation, in addition to the Walk-Through mid-ship seating adds marine-grade vinyl wrapped pressure treated removable wood floor panels as part of the package. It also adds marine-grade easy clean vinyl covering to all seating surfaces. The “WT” designation also adds a separate convenient storage compartment section to each of the stern seats thus making them into “L” shapes with centre walk-through between them. This designation also adds a full-width self-draining transom splashwell plus centre side storage compartments.
The 1468 WT is rated for a maximum four person capacity. It weighs 905 lbs compared to 821 lbs without the WT designation. The inclusion of exterior transom carrying handles adds to the ease of mobility of the 1468 WT. The only available factory options are a deployable ladder, an oar lock kit, and a galvanized bunk trailer with spare tire.
In Crestliner’s words, “Keeping it simple has never had so many possibilities. The 1468 Outreach WT is everything you could want in a straightforward, no-frills fishing boat.”
