Boat Review by: Richard Crowder
Campion Boats of spectacularly gorgeous Kelowna, British Columbia, is the largest manufacturer of fibreglass boats in Canada. Campion offers a most comprehensive selection totalling fifty-one models in five series of bowrider and closed deck runabouts, cuddy cabins, express cruisers, sport utility, high performance, wake and surf boats.
Campion is proud of its award-winning enviro-friendly manufacturing processes and was the world’s first to utilize Ashland’s bio-derived Enviro Responsible Resin along with Ecomate environmentally friendly flotation foams. Campion’s proven Apex hull designs are laid up with 3-dimensional weave fibreglass and reinforced with Kevlar. A VPRO barrier coat is applied standard to the hull bottom.
The Explorer series of twelve models from sixteen to thirty feet in center console, cuddy walkaround, and express cabin configurations is directed at the fishing enthusiast with appeal to the recreational boater as well. Thus the 2019 Explorer 682 BRA SC, second largest of the Explorer models, not only has all of the essential fishing features but also is equipped for full family recreational enjoyment.
The 682 BRA SC is a deep boat with high freeboard and a good bow flare making it ideal for big water excursions. It is available with both sterndrive and outboard power and there are very few differences between them. Single or twin outboard power of your choice of brand up to a total of 300 horsepower is available. A single motor will allow you to more comfortably add a kicker motor on the swim platform.
Although a standard windshield with optional bimini top with full enclosure is available, this model is destined to have the optional hardtop with opening side windows and your choice of enclosure. This then gives you the ideal weather protection to extend your seasons spring and fall. The hardtop is high with lots of headroom and looks most appropriate on this boat.
The large self-draining cockpit is loaded with fishing amenities such as rod storage, rod holders, built-in tackle box, a bait tank, fish storage tanks, and down rigger support brackets - all standard equipment. In addition is under seat storage boxes, passenger side glove box, in-floor storage, and gunnel side storage along with LED courtesy lighting.
A pair of high back contoured swivel chairs with fixed armrests and sliders are provided for the driver and front passenger. Additional seating is provided by a fixed pair of aft-facing seats mounted aft of the front seats plus a removable full-width stern bench seat. The starboard side backrest portion of the stern seat folds inward to allow walk-thru transom access to the full-width swim platform. The passenger side seating can be optionally replaced with a fold-down back-to-back sleeper seat. A clip-on swim platform dive ladder is stored on the inner cockpit liner.
A bi-fold cabin door provides access to the cabin below with its convertible dinette/V-berth, galley with sink, icebox, and butane stove to port plus storage cabinets. To starboard is a head compartment with manual marine head with holding tank and level monitor. Tinted fixed hullside windows provide some natural lighting while a screened opening foredeck hatch provides fresh air. On the foredeck is a bow pulpit with anchor roller, anchor locker and hawse pipe.
At the helm, molded dash panel inserts allow you to choose between electronic and analog gauges depending on your engine choice. Speedometer and fuel gauges are provided standard as is a powerpoint, trim tabs with indicators, dual articulated windshield wipers, and a stainless steel steering wheel with standard hydraulic steering. A Kicker KMC 10 AM/FM Bluetooth compatible stereo with dual USB plus an iPod port along with four Kicker speakers is standard.
A comprehensive optional equipment list will allow you to equip your 682 BRA SC according to your ideal boating lifestyle. At the helm, choose tilt steering, digital depth finder, stereo remote, fish finder with or without GPS plotter, and VHF radio. In the cabin, you may delete the galley altogether, or for more cruising enjoyment, add a 12-volt refrigerator, electric head, shorepower, and fabric upholstery instead of vinyl.
For fishing you may want raw water washdown, aerated 16.5 litre live bait tank, 95 litre livewell, and hardtop rod holder rack. You may also choose an upgraded KMC 20 stereo, satellite radio, underwater lighting, anchor windlass, remote spotlight, snap-in carpet, and a stainless steel radar arch among other upgrades.
Yes the Campion 682 BRA SC is a comfortable, versatile big water fishing and cruising boat that is built to respect its impact on our environment.
