Boat Review by: Richard Crowder
Grady-White’s popular Freedom 192 is the smallest of ten dual console Freedom models ranging from nineteen up to thirty-seven feet. Grady-White offers a total of twenty-seven models in five series of center consoles, dual consoles, walkarounds, express, and coastal designs from eighteen to forty-five feet.
The Freedom 192 rides on Grady-White’s proven SeaV² progressive deadrise hull, “designed exclusively for Grady-White by C. Raymond Hunt Associates, the originators of the modified vee.” In the case of the Freedom 192, its modified vee deadrise starts at 15.5 degrees at the transom and progressively increases toward the bow.
The Freedom 192 is pre-rigged at the factory to handle single outboard power up to a rated maximum of 200 horsepower. Factory test results with a 200 horsepower Yamaha and normal loading show an optimum cruising speed of 29.6 mph at 4000 RPM and a top speed of almost 47 mph at 6000 RPM. An engine flush system with hose is provided standard.
Hydraulic tilt steering utilizing a stainless steel steering wheel with convenience knob is standard. The two-tiered dash offers a large near vertical upper section ideal for flush-mounting your choice of single of twin navigation/fishfinding screens while an angled lower section just above the wheel is reserved for the DC switches, breakers, and digital engine readout gauge. Two 12-volt accessory outlets are provided. Dual batteries are standard.
An adjustable pedestal helm chair may be upgraded to a Deluxe I or Deluxe II chair. You may also choose to optionally replace this helm chair entirely with a back-to-back sliding sleeper seat with storage drawer within its lower section. This same sleeper seat arrangement with storage drawer, although without the slider feature is standard for the passenger side seating. Within the driver’s console is a lockable storage compartment with light and storage pocket with two tackle trays provided standard. The passenger console has a lockable glove box.
A pair of stern jump seats, one on each side of the motor well, provides extra cockpit seating while a molded transom swim platform behind each of these seats provides handy water access with a standard top-mounted telescoping boarding ladder provided on the port side platform. An additional cockpit seat is available on the cushioned top of the optional 52-quart insulated cooler located immediately aft of the helm chair. If you prefer, you could instead choose the optional 52-quart (13 gallon) raw water livewell with light and cushioned top for the same location.
A high, five-piece protective windshield with standard starboard side windshield wiper, extended side wings and walk-thru center section leads to the bow seating area. Beneath the starboard bow seat cushion is an insulated 44-quart ice box with overboard drain. This may of course also be used for dry storage. Beneath the port side seat cushion is a finished storage compartment.
High surrounding bow bolster padding provides comfortable seating including forward-facing lounging backing onto the forward padded faces of the two consoles. A bow anchor locker with rode storage is also provided as are top-mounted full length low profile side bow safety grab rails.
Other notable standard equipment includes a pair of horizontal fishing rod storage racks on each side of the cockpit, cockpit toe rails, blue LED cockpit courtesy lighting, a black canvas Vista top with storage boot, four in-gunnel rod holders, and six stainless steel drinkholders. A self-bailing cockpit and level flotation is of course also standard.
Additional notable optional upgrades include five choices of hull side gelcoat colours or two choices of hull side painted colours, cockpit recessed freshwater shower with ten gallon freshwater tank, cockpit raw water washdown, a ski pylon, and a Bluetooth® compatible AM/FM stereo with amplifier, MP3 auxiliary, and four speakers. For canvas, you can choose front, side and aft curtains for the Vista top plus a bow cover and tonneau cover, all in black.
Grady-White says that its Freedom series is designed and outfitted to promote boating freedom; freedom to cruise, to explore, to anchor out, to fish, and to enjoy watersports activities. The Freedom 192 lives up to all of that.
