Boat Review by: Richard Crowder
In addition to fishing models and pontoon boats, Larson offers a total of nine runabout sport boat models in both outboard and sterndrive versions from sixteen to twenty-three feet; five in its LX series having traditional tapered V-shaped bow seating areas, and four in its LXH series with pickle-fork, more squared off bow design having more U-shaped bow area seating and higher freeboard throughout.
With its relatively wide eight foot, three inch beam and deep hullsides, it feels roomy inside and easily able to accommodate its rated carrying capacity of eight persons. Driver and front passenger are coddled with standard high-back and thickly padded, adjustable, swivel reclining helm chairs with flip-down armrests and flip-up forward bolsters.
Bow area passengers are similarly coddled with full surrounding seating with full height side bolstering including on the forward faces of the two consoles offering stretch-out forward-facing lounging and equipped with flip-down armrests. Recessed stainless steel safety grabrails, cupholders, and recessed audio speakers on each side of the bow seating area add a luxurious touch. Finished storage is provided beneath the bow seat cushions.
An almost full-width comfortable three-person stern bench seat with storage beneath the seat cushion completes the LXH 190 OB seating arrangements. A starboard side step next to the stern bench seat provides handy transom walk-across access to the integrated swim platform with concealed stainless steel telescoping boarding ladder. More storage areas are provided within this transom area which itself is convenient for aft-facing seating using the swim platform sections as a footrest.
An upscale black molded dash with shading eyebrow and carbon foil instrument backing features a sporty tilt steering wheel, tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge and hour meter. A 12-volt accessory outlet is standard. The passenger console with comparable design features has a lockable glove box with the controls for the standard Rockford Fosgate AM/FM Bluetooth compatible stereo with USB port and MP3/iPod adapters and four speakers.
The three-piece curved walk-through windshield features extended side wings for extra weather and wind protection and an in-floor storage compartment beneath the walk-thru section is ideal for watersports accessories like waterskis and wakeboards. Standard interior colour is white with carbon accenting. Saddle colour accenting is optionally available.
Outboard power from your choice of Mercury, Suzuki, or Yamaha and from 115 to 200 horsepower is available with hydraulic steering standard from 150 horsepower and up. Notable additional standard equipment includes pull-up cleats, bow and cockpit covers, and a 3400 pound Shoreland’r painted trailer with swing tongue and chrome rims.
Each of the available optional upgrades are worth serious consideration as they all add either worthwhile and pleasing aesthetics or comforts or convenience for even greater enjoyment of your LXH 190 OB. For example, several exciting and eye-catching exterior colour and graphics choices are available for the hull sides while all-black hull and deck with or without additional graphics highlights is also available.
Audiophiles will be excited to add up to three Rockford Fosgate Punch upgrades including a PMX-2 audio receiver with 6-inch black speakers, 400-watt, 4-channel amplifier, and remote, a 10-inch speaker with a 100 watt, 5-channel amplifier, and 2 speaker cans with a 300 watt 2-channel amplifier for the optional Xtreme wakeboard tower which comes standard with racks. You may instead choose a Polk premium sound package with four lighted speakers, a subwoofer Kicker speaker, and remote control.
Several cockpit flooring upgrades are available including snap-in grey carpet, snap-in or glue-in grey or camel Marine Mat, and snap-in grey or sand woven flooring. For the transom deck and swim platform you may upgrade with grey or camel Marine Mat.
Notable single optional upgrades include a bimini top itself or one for the wakeboard tower, bow filler cushion, a telescoping three-step bow boarding ladder, digital in-dash depth finder, power assist steering, and a cockpit table. Hydraulic steering is optionally available and highly recommended for engine horsepower choices below 150. A galvanized trailer is also available or you may delete the trailer altogether.
One quite unusual available upgrade is the Ski/Fish Package which converts the bow seating area to a raised casting platform with full storage within including a tackle box and recirculating livewell. This platform and inner hull sides are covered with Sea Dek mat and fitted with a centred in-floor 7x7 seat base and casting seat. A 24-volt foredeck-mounted trolling motor is included in the package.
The outboard powered LXH 190 OB may be the smallest in Larson’s LXH series but offers lots of standard amenities and seating and available options to satisfy all of your watersports and cruising needs for lots of fun and excitement.
