Boat Review by: Richard Crowder
The SDX 250 is the newest and smallest of six models in three lengths of sterndrive and outboard-powered deck-style bowriders in Sea Ray’s SDX series. This is one of six series of forty-two models of bowriders, sport boats, cuddies, cruisers, yachts, and flybridges from nineteen to sixty-five feet.
Virtually all full-windshield bowriders have an opening center walk-thru to the bow seating area. The Sea Ray SDX 250 is unique in that the driver’s helm is molded with a centered head compartment with lockable door and porta potti within and the windshield opening section is on the port side.
The bow seating offers a rear-facing curved lounge seat opposite a forward-facing bench seat located on the forward face of the console with a walkway between these two lounge seats. Both seats provide stretch-out lounging. Storage is provided beneath the seat cushions with dedicated storage for a portable carry-on cooler. Up front is an in-deck anchor locker with concealed four-step telescoping bow boarding ladder. A standard white acrylic bow block-off door is provided.
Flexible seating is provided throughout the SDX 250. The driver has a double-wide helm seat with flip-up forward bolster and reversible backrest which, when in its forward position, provides rear-facing lounging with the attached starboard side lounge seat. The front passenger is likewise provided with a double-wide seat with flip-up forward bolster and reversible backrest.
With this backrest in its forward position, rear-facing lounging is provided on the attached L-shaped lounge seat which extends aft on the port side and across the transom to the starboard side walk-thru from the cockpit to the swim platform. The transom portion of this L-shaped lounge seat forms part of the double-wide transom sunpad when its reversible backrest is in the forward position. A standard cockpit table has dedicated storage.
Storage is provided beneath these lounge seats and beneath the sunpad cushion. More storage is provided in-floor within two sections of the transom walk-thru and a larger in-floor lockable storage compartment ideal for watersports accessories is located between the driver and front passenger seats. The integral extended swim platform has an undermount stainless steel three-step boarding ladder. A ski tow eye is provided on the transom.
The very modern and attractive driver’s helm features a power assisted tilt steering wheel facing a colour-matched upholstered dash visor. Custom Sea Ray® SmartCraft® Diagnostic instrumentation is standard with chrome bezels and blue night lighting. It includes a speedometer, fuel and trim gauges, and a system tachometer with depth indicator, hour meter, fuel usage, trim level, troll control and voltage.
A 12-volt accessory and USB outlet is provided as is a flush-mount Fusion® SRX400 Bluetooth™ compatible AM/FM stereo with Wi-Fi audio streaming and four speakers. Standard power is from a 250 horsepower MerCruiser® 4.5L MPI with Bravo® III outdrive. Upgraded power is available from a 300 or 350 horsepower MerCruiser® 6.2L MPI with Bravo® III outdrive, DTS (Digital Throttle and Shift) and with or without SeaCore® fresh water cooling.
An optional Silver Trim Package provides a battery charger for the standard dual battery system, docking lights, fender clip system, automatic fire extinguishing system, an interior ventilation window for the head compartment, SeaDek swim platform matting, plus a centre section manual submersible swim step within the swim platform.
A Platinum Trim Package provides all of the Silver Trim items plus a bow filler cushion, bow table with dedicated storage, an interior head compartment cushion upgrade, indirect blue LED cockpit lighting, underwater lights, plus a Fusion® Apollo 770 stereo upgrade with amplifier, subwoofer, and transom remote.
All of the above trim package items are available as individual options. Other notable options include five choices of solid or four choices of metallic hull side colours, snap-in carpet, Seadek, or Infinity Woven vinyl cockpit flooring all in two colour choices, a Water Sports tower in black or white with bimini or a separate bimini plus various single or complete canvas coverings in three colour choices.
A digital dash upgrade with Mercury® VesselView® link with a nine or twelve-inch Simrad touchscreen with chartplotter, depth, water temperature, and fishfinder is available as is a bow and/or transom shower, ski mirror, swivel wakeboard racks, tower speakers, and a regular or Premium painted or galvanized tandem axle trailer.
Sea Ray’s SDX 250 is unique in layout with flexible seating throughout and may be outfitted to accommodate all of your on-water desires for cruising, entertaining, and watersports enjoyment.
