Boat Review by: Richard Crowder
Smoker Craft offers three major categories of aluminum boats, namely Fishing, Utility, and North American Angler comprised of twenty series in total and dozens of models. The Adventurer series is new and offers two tiller-controlled models in sixteen and eighteen feet and is part of the eight series of twenty-two tiller, side, and dual console models from fifteen to eighteen feet in the Fishing category.
If you check out the floorplan of the two Adventurer models, they are not simply an open boat like you might expect of a tiller-controlled model but instead provide most of the amenities of a side or dual console boat but simply without the consoles. Therefore you can move all around the boat with ease.
The Adventurer 160 T is a big boat for its size with a seven-foot, eight-inch beam, a maximum hull depth of three feet, and a maximum cockpit depth of two feet. Over half of the total interior consists of a raised bow casting platform at the same level as a smaller stern casting platform which are together joined full-length down both sides of the cockpit with a walking/standing platform at the same height. The cockpit itself, at a lower level of course, is contained within this full surrounding raised continuous platform.
Both general and dedicated storage compartments almost completely fill these surrounding platforms and along with an additional lockable in-floor storage compartment means you will always have lots of room for all your gear. The centre section of the bow casting platform extends slightly aft into the cockpit space to accommodate a lockable rod storage compartment with six tubes located within the bow casting deck.
There are three additional lockable storage compartments within the bow casting deck. A raised bow trolling motor platform with panel and open storage within is also provided. Port and starboard side lockers can accommodate additional rods while an aerated livewell is provided standard within the stern casting platform.
Two composite high-back form-fitting upholstered and padded pedestal fishing seats come standard for the three in-floor bases provided; one on the stern starboard side for the driver operating the tiller controls on the motor, one centred on the cockpit port side, and one centred within the bow casting platform. Vinyl flooring is provided throughout the cockpit and platforms.
Smoker Craft’s Integrated Gunnel Track System (IGTS) provides the mounting track for a wide selection of convenient fishing accessories such as tools, rod holders, drinkholders, etc. Power for the Adventurer 160 T comes from your choice of Mercury® FourStroke or Evinrude E-TEC® tiller handle outboards up to a rated maximum of 70 horsepower. The exterior of your boat is available in your choice of black or white or optionally in silver metallic with a black stripe.
There are very few factory options from which to choose but they include snap-in carpet for the cockpit, a snap-on mooring cover and/or a trailerable ratchet cover, and an additional fishing seat. You probably will want to add a Humminbird Piranha MAX4 or a Humminbird 5, 6, or 7-inch Sonar GPS with a RAM mount. This unit conveniently mounts on the port side storage platform opposite to, and readable from the driver’s seat. You may separately choose a depth gauge. A Power Pack Package provides a 45PD trolling motor with quick disconnect or you can choose the trolling motor itself.
The Smoker Craft Adventurer 160 T offers many of the same amenities and features of larger fishing boats or those with side or dual consoles but in a compact package and with great value.
