GrandMariner 250 Performance2

The Harris Grand Mariner series of three models, 230, 250, and 270 represents one of six series of pontoon boats incorporating dozens of models and floorplans from 16-27 feet. Harris was one of the very first production pontoon boat manufacturers, and for years Harris FloteBoat was one of the very few, if only, pontoon boat displays during the early years of the Toronto International Boat Show.

Now part of the Brunswick Boat Group, Harris has redesigned its upscale Grand Mariner series for 2022. Each of the three Grand Mariner models has three basic floorplans; the standard SL (Single rear-facing Lounge), the upgraded SLEC (Single rear-facing Lounge with Entertainment Center), and the upgraded CWDH (Center Walk-thru with Dual Helm seats). You may further upgrade the SL floorplan to SLDH which adds Dual Helm Seats on the 230 and 250 and to SLDDH which adds a third helm seat on the 270.

All three models offer essentially the same standard equipment and available options. But each model increases in length, the longitudinal lounges increase in length, and the range of available Mercury® outboard horsepower increases, as does the onboard capacity and the overall weight. The 230 and 250 models come standard with a pair of 25-inch diameter pontoon tubes, and all of the above numbers increase as a third tube and larger 27-inch diameter tubes are incorporated. A third tube on any model increases the fuel capacity and makes in-floor storage available.

Starting with a pair of 25-inch tubes on the Grand Mariner 230, you get a 9-10 person capacity and can equip it with a Mercury® 90 ELPT FourStroke EFI up to a 200 horsepower FourStroke. At the top end on the Grand Mariner 270 comes equipped with three 27-inch diameter tubes and Mercury® engine choices include at a 150XL EFI FourStroke with a comprehensive optional performance package. You can also power it up to a Mercury 400R Verado and carry up to 16 onboard.

Your choice of a Grand Mariner 230, or 250, or 270 will determine the performance upgrades available to add a tube, increase the diameter of the tubes, to add skirting, underdeck skin, and lifting strakes and in combination with a ski tow bar or pylon. These latter two options may be added separately with or without a stainless steel surrounding safety railing. You can also add Mercury® Active Trim. Hydraulic steering is standard with some engine choices and is optionally available with others. Power assist steering is also available.

All floorplans feature port and starboard side facing bow lounges of different length depending on model length. All lounges having sloping forward-facing backrests for stretch-out lounging as well as storage beneath the seat cushions. Choose the center walk-thru with dual helm seats (CWDH) and you get a similar pair of facing stern lounges plus a second helm seat on the port side opposite the driver’s helm seat.

But choose a model with the single rear-facing lounge and you have selected the piece de resistance of the Grand Mariner series. This multi-function lounge sits up, lays down, lays partially down, facing forward, facing aft, and splits up into two or three sections with each individual section able to do any of the above at the same time!

Regardless of your choice of model or floorplan, there are four standard panel colours to choose, as well as eight accenting colour strips. All standard silver railing can also be upgraded to black. There are four upholstery colour choices, each of which may be upgraded to pillow top. Standard flooring is your choice of vinyl or woven vinyl all in gray or Seagrass in gray or beige. There are 11 upgraded flooring choices available. The available upholstered interior fence upgrade is a classy addition.

The standard molded raised helm of the Grand Mariner series is complemented with a luxurious high back, reclining, helm chair with adjustable height and armrests facing a sporty, tilting wheel. Two large-diameter gauges with tachometer and GPS speedometer are standard and flank a standard flush-mount Simrad GO7 GPS chartplotter/fishfinder. Mercury® VesselView™ link is standard, as is a wireless mobile phone charging pad, 12V receptacle, USB charging ports, lockable glove box, and the head unit for the standard JL Audio Zone Control stereo with eight JL speakers. C-Zone® multi-function remote control by key fob is available.

A 12-foot bimini top in blue or black comes standard, or you might want a 12-foot lighted bimini, or a 10-foot electric powered bimini with LED lighting, or a double bimini, or a full enclosure. You can also choose one of two slick towers with or without a bimini. A mooring cover utilizing the EZ-Clip system is available as are black seat covers. The 5.5-inch Quick Release Fender System is standard or upgrade to an 8.8-inch system and add fenders with straps to both sizes.

Additional optional upgrades are available to suit almost all potential on-water enjoyment. Some of the more notable ones include upgrading to single or twin Simrad GO9 screens in the dash, removable windscreen, Platinum or Diamond JL stereo system upgrades, tower speakers, a total lighting package to upgrade the standard LED RGB interior lighting package, and a convenience package.

A powered retracting stainless steel boarding ladder is available as an upgrade from the standard 4-step telescoping and folding boarding ladder. Either one is part of an extra large and roomy aft swim deck. A separate swim seat is also available. A black acrylic table is an upgrade to the standard woodgrain sport table. A flip-up table on the aft end of the port bow lounge is available. Other choices may include a flip-up change room, bow jump seat, ottoman with cooler, stainless steel grill and/or refrigerator, pressure water system, docking lights, and a battery charger. As this review is being written, Harris Boats has just announced that it will be offering the brand new Mercury® Joystick Piloting for Single-Engine Pontoon boats with digital throttle and shift (DTS) controls as an available option on its Grand Mariner (and other) models.

Which ever Harris Grand Mariner model you choose, which ever floorplan, and which ever options, you will have a pontoon boat that you will love and one that will turn heads wherever you boat.
