Background

This motor vessel is a custom design of all welded aluminum construction, built  in Ontario by Orillia Steel Works, Inc. in 1983 at a cost of $250,000. Originally used by the Ontario Government to do water research.    


Engines and Propulsion System

    Twin Turbo Charged, Inter-Cooled, Six Cylinder Volvo Diesels, THAMD D70, 270 HP each, Twin Disc marine transmissions Model MG 507,   Propellers are three blade Osborne bronze opposing 26X24  on 2.75” SS shafts,   Mufflers are galvanized steel,
 

Hull and Deck

Bottom was completely refinished in 2020.  Interlux Interprotect epoxy primer and Tri Lux II antifouling. 


Interior     The plywood partitions were removed and are available as templates.

Galley  Interior

There is a "Dickinson" NEWPORT diesel heater on the starboard side, used primarily to warm and dry the cabin space. 

Fridge runs on both 12V and 110V power

Mechanical

A marine head is plumbed to a 30 gallon poly holding tank.   There is a hot and cold pressure water system.  Through-hulls are located in the engine room.

Electrical

The vessel has three voltage systems: 12, 24 and 110. The house batteries were new in 2020.  There are two "Charles" battery chargers.  Each about 30 amps, one for the 12V system, the other to serve the 24V system.   

 A 24V battery bank is used to power one of the three bilge pumps.

Two 12V batteries are used for starting the engines. Breaker panels are located in the forward cabin space.

 There are two Isuzu 18HP diesels which drive the Leroy Somers alternators, capable of generating 240V.  One needs servicing as the kill switch has malfunctioned.
Wiring will need some attention.   

 

Safety and Ground Tackle

Two 12V bilge pumps and one 24V bilge pump are fitted to handle water intrusion,  

There is an emergency hatch which connects the deckhouse to the engine room.

Ground tackle includes a 40lb “ Danforth” style with about 100 feet of half inch nylon rode and a short length of galvanized chain. The windlass is not working and requires a new gear.

Ritchie compass with 3 inch card,  Horizon VHF (2016), Furuno Radar
