The Cobalt 253 is built with a cockpit ready for a noonday trip with half a dozen friends on board. Its cabin is open and inviting, with both a berth and a curved lounge with soft lighting. A curved sliding door of smoked Lexan opens effortlessly across a spacious entrance. Velcroed privacy curtains slip immediately into place. A Porta-Potti is standard, and many 253 owners opt for the cabin galley as well. The premium Sony sound system includes a ten-disc CD changer and six waterproof speakers, two in the cabin and four in the cockpit. Meanwhile, the helm station is ergonomic and functional, engineered with typical Cobalt efficiency, as in the helm-based circuit breakers and aircraft-style stainless-steel switches. A hand-stitched leather steering wheel with tilt is standard, along with an in-dash water depth gauge. The all aluminum dash is automotively styled with color-matched panels, and silk-screened nomenclature. The captain's chairs have been manufactured in roto-cast molds in a single-piece configuration with stainless fasteners molded in. The Cobalt 253 hull design creates a true extended running surface for enhanced bite, quicker planing, and firm, true turns. The 253 employs an all-fiberglass stringer system - Cobalt insists on the strength and longevity of fiberglass. The 253's solid composite transom replaces wooden transoms. At two-plus inches thick, the transom absorbs all the torque of the drive system, isolating noise and vibration, and ensuring the 253's integrity and longevity. Its fiberglass motor mounts are integrated as part of the stringer system. The 253 incorporates the traditional strengths of Cobalt design and manufacturing; the Hydrolam process, for example, with the unmatched integrity of 100-percent hand-laid hull construction. The 253's hull remains in the mold through the entire curing process - a full four days - to eliminate any possibility of warping. Structural components are added with jigs of fixed dimensions for uniformity and consistent performance. The graphics are an integral part of the gelcoat for permanent imagery. Other Cobalt standards are here too: the bow scuff plate, aluminum engine vents (along with a captain's-call exhaust), stainless steel supports for the windshield, and a custom wiring harness made specifically for the 253 with no butt splices and no hard wiring. Every connection is made with machine-secured connectors, while two ground bars (engine and dash) forestall electrical problems. Cobalt's Varadense seating gives the 253's cockpit an extra measure of comfort. Its integrated design involves multiple densities of foam, the seating's support mechanism, and special reinforcements in the deck. Varadense seating calls for the thickest vinyls in the industry, and for multiple densities of foam (from #35 to #125) to create an unmistakable combination of support in rough water. Cobalt's exclusive flip-lip buckets raise the captain and the guests to a safe, comfortable high-rise seating option, ready to feel the breeze above the windshield. A gas-assisted door opens to a large, rubber-matted locker amidships, ideal for storing skis and kneeboards. The engine compartment also has plenty of room for bulky gear of all kinds. The large engine compartment pays dividends in accessibility, for changing belts or filters and for frequent checking of the dipstick. The engine compartment drains into the bilge. The warranty protecting the long-term value of the Cobalt 253 is straightforward and includes: 10 years on the hull and deck structure and five years on the engine, sterndrive, intermediate housing, steering, and instrumentation. Equally notable is Cobalt's two-year warranty on upholstery and gelcoat, including a blister-free clause on the latter.
