***Special "AS IS, WHERE IS" for $17,500 CDN***
This unusual Custom Cutter, with her steel deck and hull, is approximately 65 % complete, hence her bargain-like price. She appears that she may be based on a Lyle Hess design. Most of his designs were manufactured in wood or fibreglass. It is unusual to find one manufactured from metal.
She was manufactured by a professional welder in Iowa in 2003. The original engine was a 12 hp Yanmar which was much too small to move her at a significant pace. The current owner replaced that engine with a 25 hp Universal (Kubota) diesel. At this point, her hull is uninsulated and she is stripped out down below. It would not be too difficult to work things around so that an insulating material could be applied above her waterline. Her framing is 1/4" x 2 1/2" steel on 18" centers. Her hull plating is the same thickness below the waterline and likely 3/16" above the waterline. She has been recently ground-coated with submarine primer and then topcoated. Her ballast is concrete encased in a steel-framed keel. She has a full keel and has a hard double-chine in her hull design. Her sails (new in 2003) are hanked on.
With some love and attention, she could be equipped for and capable of long-distance cruising. Her pilothouse will enable the Captain and Crew to stay dry, and the new Universal Diesel has only 20 hours!
