formula 330 fx side profile

Model year 2016 marks Thunderbird’s 60th anniversary in the production of fiberglass powerboats. In this anniversary year, Formula offers thirty models of sport boats, bowriders, cuddies, cruisers, yachts, and high performance boats in eight series ranging from twenty-four to forty-five feet.

The 330 CBR (Crossover Bowrider) is a big roomy and deep entertaining day boat with overnighting capabilities; thus the “Crossover” nomenclature. There are two models in the CBR Crossover series, the 330 and 350. The “FX” suffix in the model name is essentially an upscale add-on package available on this and several other Formula models leading to the creation of a stand-alone nine model FX series.

There’s something about a Formula that exudes quality, from the choice of materials, colours, and fabrics to the fit and finishing details. Quality is built-in, not just added on. The 330 CBR builds on this formula by adding feature-laden flexibility. As a prime example, there are a total of not just one but four possible sunlounges on board. There is of course the ever-popular aft-facing four person transom seat which converts into a sunlounge.

In addition though, the aft portside L-shaped cockpit seat comes standard with a quarter-round, hi-lo, Corian-topped table and filler cushion to convert to another sunlounge. Similarly, the aft portion of the double-wide helm seat extends aft on the starboard cockpit side to form another L-shaped seat which comes standard with its own similar table with filler cushion to convert into another sunlounge.

Up front, the bow area offers even more flexibility with two standard hi-lo Corian-topped tables which may be dropped down together or individually and with four standard filler cushions can create a starboard side double-wide forward-facing seat or lounge/sunpad, or with both tables down, a double-wide plus bow section sunpad, or with all filler cushions in place, a complete bow area sunpad/sunlounge. All tables and all filler cushions have dedicated storage areas.

The double-wide helm seat has individual forward flip-up bolsters plus individual backrests which allow each person to sit facing forward or aft as desired. Opposite the helm on the starboard side is a side-facing two-person bench seat. Between this seat and the aft L-shaped lounge is a standard molded wetbar with Corian countertop, sink and storage. Included is a carry-on cooler.

Beneath all seat cushions are finished storage. Two insulated under-seat molded-in coolers, one in the bow and one in the cockpit are supplied as is a cockpit dedicated trash container. An extra large, waist-deep centre cockpit in-floor storage lazarette with light which, along with the aft sunpad storage, provides all of the storage you’ll ever need.

A dash-integrated cabin door leads via solid wood steps down to the cabin which offers generous six-foot headroom, woodgrain finish flooring, portside storage cabinet, L-shaped Ultraleather™ double-wide lounge with Ultrasuede lumbar seating and a pop-down backrest which, with the filler cushion, converts to a full size berth. The molded head compartment includes a molded vanity and sink with pull-out faucet, Corian countertop, exhaust fan, and standard VacuFlush® head.

The functional helm features a leather-wrapped stainless tilting wheel, standard Garmin® 547 GPS colour chartplotter, digital depth sounder, plus high performance Livorsi® chrome-bezeled instrumentation and shifter/throttle controls. Trim tabs are standard. Twin MerCruiser® or Volvo sterndrive power is available from 300 to 430 horsepower.

Just a sample of additional standard equipment includes Imron® painted hullside graphics, polished stainless steel fittings and accessories throughout, transom shower, blue/white LED courtesy lighting, acrylic bow door, cockpit carpet, Clarion® Bluetooth Sirius™-ready stereo with media inputs and remote controls, anchor locker, and electric engine hatch.

Only the most notable options include an anchor windlass, remote spotlight, docking lights, audio and entertainment upgrades, radar arch, bimini top plus various cockpit covers, extended swim platform, propane grill, MerCruiser® Axius™ or Volvo joystick docking control, cockpit heater, cockpit refrigerator, floor covering options, cabin microwave, cabin air conditioning/heating, shorepower, battery charger, and a 5 kW Kohler® generator.

Just as a sample of the available offerings, the FX series adds classy Imron® graphics choices, carbon-fiber trim, upholstery trim accenting, blue LED lighting upgrades and accenting, Graphite cabin decor with brushed aluminum upper cabinets, Livorsi® Mega Series gauges, sport steering wheel, CORSA stainless side exhaust, and two MerCruiser® engine choices in twin 380 or 430 horsepower.

Sporty and flexible with quality and class – the Formula 330 CBR Bowrider.
