For Sale: 1972 Ranger 33 – Classic Gary Mull Racer/Cruiser – Ready to Sail!

This well-maintained 1972 Ranger 33 is a responsive, balanced performer that blends sparkling sailing characteristics with comfortable coastal cruising capability.

Designed by Gary Mull and built by Ranger Yachts, these boats earned a reputation as fast club racers (typical PHRF ~156) that remain competitive today while offering a safe, sea kindly ride for weekend getaways or longer passages.

Hull & Deck

Solid fiberglass hull with plywood-cored deck. Classic lines with a graceful sheer, reverse transom, and low cabin trunk that still turn heads. Deck features generous side decks, sturdy stanchions, and a roomy cockpit with tiller steering (wheel conversion possible). Excellent condition with recent bottom paint and upkeep.

Sailing & Performance

Stiff and powerful with a high ballast ratio (~43%). Owners love how she tracks beautifully, points well, and feels responsive on the helm. Reduce sail early to tame weather helm when heeled, and she’ll reward you with fun, dry sailing. Great for single-handing with modern upgrades like roller furling. Hull speed around 6.9 knots.

Interior Layout

Sleeps 5–6 comfortably: V-berth forward, enclosed head, convertible dinette and settees in the salon, and a quarter berth. Galley with sink, stove, and icebox. Ample storage throughout. Warm teak trim and bright, airy feel thanks to multiple ports and hatches. Headroom ~6′ in the main areas. Compact by modern standards but efficient and welcoming for a couple or small family.

  • Sails in good condition (main, genoa, working jib)
  • Running rigging and winches
