SeaRay 330 Running

Sundancer®. It’s the name that perhaps most comes to mind when boaters think of a mid-cabin express cruiser. And for very good reason. Sea Ray® first introduced the raised helm, mid-cabin design in 1974, over thirty-five years ago, and the Sundancer® name has defined this layout ever since for this, arguably the largest or at least one of the largest producers of pleasure boats in North America, if not the world. For 2011, Sea Ray® is offering a most comprehensive product line ranging from seventeen to sixty-one feet in four series: Sport Boats, Sport Cruisers, Sport Yachts, and Yachts.

The 330 Sundancer® subject of this review, is positioned in the upper half of seven models of Sport Cruisers, all with the Sundancer® name, ranging from the 240 to the 370. As Sea Ray® founder C.N. Ray once said, “It’s not the one big thing. It’s the thousand ‘little things’ we do that make Sea Ray the best.” And maybe this best exemplifies the enormous staying power of the Sundancer® name over these many years. It simply has done an enormous number of little things very well and customers have flocked to the variety of Sundancer® models over these many years for those very reasons.

Perhaps part of the reason for the Sundancer® popularity over these many years is the very long list of standard equipment that comes with each model as exemplified in the 330. You could drive away without ticking off a single item from the 330’s still extensive option list yet be very satisfied with your boat and enjoy years of boating. For example, full Sunbrella® canvas to completely enclose the cockpit and with clear front and side curtains is standard equipment as is a fitted sheet set for the double visco elastic foam mattress of the V-berth, a VacuFlush® head, and Ultraleather™ seating surfaces in the salon area. And this is just for starters.

Other notable standard features include your choice of cherry or maple wood-finish interior cabinetry, removable solid teak cockpit table with dedicated storage and complete with sun pad filler cushions, an aft-facing seat above the swim platform that folds away into the transom, two galley refrigerators, and in the technical department, high water alarms for both the bilge and the cabin, holding tank level indicator, custom Sea Ray® SmartCraft® engine 4-in-1 Multigauges with diagnostics, SmartCraft® System speedometer with GPS interface, SmartCraft® System tachometers which include trim level and fuel consumption and usage information, SmartCraft® Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS), a VHF radio, automatic fire suppression system, freshwater washdown spigot, and hydraulic trim tabs. And those are just some of the more notable items often not found elsewhere as standard equipment.

The cabin interior of the 330 is warm, sumptuous, inviting, and surprisingly roomy feeling with lots of head and elbow room. The galley is large and well equipped and storage abounds everywhere and is all well finished inside and out. Wood flooring is standard. Six adults fit very comfortably in all aspects on the 330, from sleeping accommodations inside and to spacious cockpit seating availability outside. Even more than six can easily be entertained on board.

The 330 Sundancer® comes standard with twin gasoline 300 horsepower MerCruiser® 350 MAG sterndrives with Bravo® III drives and with the aforementioned DTS controls. You could opt for the lesser power twin 260 horsepower 5.0L MPI/Bravo III units with DTS. Both of these choices are also available with the optional Axius® Propulsion System which includes Axius Control Joystick and SmartCraft VesselView Display. If you have never experienced either of these systems, it is highly recommended that you test drive a boat with them as you will never want to be without. Twin gasoline V-drive power is also available as is diesel sterndrive power.

Optionally, to max out your 330, there is a substantial option list with some choice items. Just to highlight, choose one of two generators, air conditioning/heating, Raymarine autopilot or chartplotter or fishfinder or radar, DSS satellite TV, several choices of flatscreen TV’s, premium stereo, aft cockpit removable sunshade, foredeck sunpad with headrest and integrated iPod® speakers, cockpit refrigerator, and two choices of stainless steel cockpit grills. The list goes on.

And remember, when you purchase a Sea Ray®, you become part of the Sea Ray® family. “As part of our family, you’ll be invited to rendezvous and other gatherings, big and small, so you can truly enjoy the camaraderie that owning a Sea Ray brings. You’ll definitely want to be a part of AquaPalooza®, The World’s Largest Boating Event, held each summer at more than 100 locations around the globe.”
