four winns horizon 290 running

The second largest model in Four Winns’ nine model lineup of Horizon bowriders from eighteen to thirty-one feet, the 290 is all new for 2014. It rides on Four Winns’ familiar and signature Stable Vee® hull design with a deep-V 21° deadrise offering smooth and stable ride qualities.

Joining this new Horizon 290 are five new models this year in Four Winns’ RS series of sport boats. In all, this brings Four Winns offerings for 2014 to a total of forty-four models from eighteen to forty-nine feet in seven series of bowriders, cuddies, deck boats, and cruisers.

The 290 is huge as bowriders go yet sleek, versatile, flexible in its accommodations and instantly recognizable from all other Horizon bowriders with its large, trapezoidal hullside windows on each side immediately below the forward base of the beautifully curved windshield. These windows bring natural lighting into the elongated portside head compartment and into, are you ready for this, the starboard side change room with integrated single berth! Wow!

The large low profile sculpted integrated swim platform of the 290 features Four Winns’ recessed centre mounted telescoping, deep-reach, angled boarding ladder with wide-step pads. On the transom and facing this platform is a sunpad with “one-touch automatic conversion” to a sunlounge utilizing the backrest of the transom portion of the L-shaped cockpit lounge seat which extends forward along the portside of the cockpit. Storage is found beneath all of this seating plus a portable cooler is provided as is a transom shower. Blue courtesy lighting enriches the cockpit interior after hours.

The driver and front passenger each enjoy an adjustable ComfortRide bucket seat with flip-up bolster and headrest. The driver’s side is power adjustable. Up front, in what Four Winns refers to as an “oversized bow area, the seating on the 290 is somewhat unique with a starboard side L-shaped lounge extending across the bow section and a single portside seat backing onto the passenger console. Both this single seat and the lounge seat have flip-up armrests and adjustable headrests. Storage is found below all of the hinged seat cushions. Forward is the foredeck anchor locker with an anchor roller opening through the hull.

The fiberglass lined portside head compartment is entered through the front of the passenger console and features a long vanity top with built-in sink over wood cabinetry with storage and a built-in trash container. A porta-potti is standard. Ventilation is from an opening, screened port-lite. On the starboard side, the change room cum single berth which extends forward under the starboard side bow lounge seat also has a hullside storage cabinet.

The helm of the 290 features an instrument cluster with hand-fitted, top-stitched upholstery behind a tilt steering wheel. Faria, fog-resistant gauges with polished raised bezels include the normal complement of sterndrive instrumentation plus an hour meter, trim tab indicators, and a depth sounder with water and air temperature. Standard entertainment on the 290 is provided by a Sony® AM/FM/CD stereo with iPod®/MP3 port.

A long and comprehensive list of optional equipment is available from Four Winns to allow you to personalize your 290 to satisfy your boating priorities. Notable among these include a Luxury Package which includes beige vinyl upholstery with mocha accents, mahogany-rimmed steering wheel, real teak overlay on the swim platform, teak table with mounting brackets in the cockpit and bow, pull-up cleats, a bimini top, and cockpit carpet.

The SLX Package includes bow filler cushions, docking lites, walk-through doors to the bow, plus a cockpit and bow cover. Most of these packaged accessories may be selected individually and in addition, you may want the cockpit galley / refreshment center which includes a sink and refrigerator. A gas grill is also available here as is an electrically raising flat screen TV with DVD player. An anchor windlass might appeal to some boaters as might the underwater lighting option. Camper canvas is also available as is an automatic fire extinguishing system.

For watersports enthusiasts, choose the hinged wakeboard tower with colour-matched bimini top and add to this two pair of JL Audio® tower speakers for which you must also select the Premium Sound System which substitutes the standard Sony® system with a JL Audio® system including amplifier, subwoofer, cockpit and transom speakers and a remote control at the helm and on the transom.

A very wide selection of single or twin Volvo Penta® Duo-Prop with or without EVC (Electronic Vessel Control) and/or Joystick, or MerCruiser® Bravo III with or without DTS (Digital Throttle and Shift) and/or Axius, sterndrive options are available to power your Horizon 290 from single 380 horsepower all the way to twin 380 horsepower. Choose wisely according to your needs.
