Sea Ray 21 SPX running V2

The SPX® series of four models, two outboard powered and two sterndrive powered in nineteen and twenty-one foot model designations, comprise a brand new series for Sea Ray in 2015. “Every once in a while, we need to un-complicate in order to grow. An edgy, sporty design and compelling performance combine to deliver the spirit of Sea Ray in an accessible, sleek package,” says Sea Ray. And by “accessible,” Sea Ray means relatively less expensive.

And the 21 SPX® may be relatively inexpensive but it still provides as standard equipment the features most desired in a sport boat of this size and offers a wide variety of optional accessories allowing you to personalize it to your particular watersports needs. And it certainly is “edgy, sporty, and sleek.” It’s also beamy and roomy. Compared to Sea Ray’s own 220 Sundeck® which is longer and on an eight foot, four inch beam, the 21 SPX® rides on a full maximum trailerable eight foot six inch beam.

The relatively deep-V 19-degree deadrise hull is laid up using high-performance vinylester resin with a fibreglass stringer system, full fibreglass inner liner, gel-coated engine compartment, and finished in standard Arctic White gel coat. The large integrated swim platform features a recessed four-step stainless steel ladder on the port side just aft of the transom walk-thru to the cockpit complete with a hinged safety door and an in-floor storage compartment. A transom mounted stainless steel ski-tow eye is standard.

Positioned right on the transom is a three-way convertible sunpad with a flip-up backrest to provide aft-facing seating for two, or in the horizontal position, a laydown sunpad for two, or flip up the starboard cushion section of this sunpad and create a lounge pad for two.

Cockpit seating in standard two-tone white and charcoal vinyl features a starboard side L-shaped lounge extending aft from the driver’s adjustable helm bucket seat and across the transom to the transom portside walk-thru. Beneath this lounge seat is a portable cooler with dedicated storage.

On the cockpit port side is a convertible bench seat with a couple of nifty features. A removable forward seat bottom cushion can be stored away under the rearmost cushion of this bench to create a single forward-facing seat using a removable backrest. Then, put the forward seat bottom cushion back in place, move the removable backrest into position at the aft end of this bench seat and voila, a rear-facing lounge using the padded forward face of the passenger console as a backrest. A lockable glove box is within this passenger console.

Centred between the helm and passenger seat is an in-floor storage compartment suitable for waterskis or a wakeboard and complete with matting and gas-assisted hinged lid. Through the five-piece custom walk-thru tinted, safety glass windshield, is a U-shaped seating configuration with a single aft-facing seat with padded backrest right at the bow. The side cushions have storage below and the padded backrests on the consoles allow forward-facing lounging. Plastic grab handles and cupholders are conveniently located within the bow and cockpit areas.

A standard custom padded tilt steering wheel faces a custom fibreglass charcoal coloured dash complete with custom Sea Ray backlit instrumentation including a large speedometer and tachometer with LCD hour meter plus a four-function engine gauge. An AM/FM stereo with wireless Bluetooth™ and four speakers is standard equipment.

Standard sterndrive power for the 21 SPX® is supplied by a 220 horsepower MerCruiser® 4.3 L MPI with an Alpha® 1 outdrive and aluminum propeller. This may be optionally upgraded with a 250 horsepower MerCruiser® 4.5 L MPI. A single axle painted trailer with disc brakes, a swing away tongue, ands swivel tongue jack is standard equipment.

There are lots of package and individual options available to best outfit your boat for the kind of boating you want to do. Choose individual canvas options or the full canvas enclosure package. A Comfort Package includes a battery switch, depth finder, snap-in cockpit carpet, plus a helm seat flip-up bolster. Watersports enthusiasts can choose the Elevation Package which includes a dash visor, ski mirror, SeaDek® swim platform matting, a black watersports tower with tower racks and a black bimini. If you are a fishing enthusiast, go for the Allsport Package which includes a battery charger, two casting chairs, a livewell, rod storage and trolling motor.

Notable individual options include a Raymarine® GPS/fishfinder, the SeaDek® matting, Premium stereo upgrade with transom remote, PerfectPass® speed control, and many choices of hull side colours and accenting plus Speed or Sport graphics combinations.

Says Sea Ray, “Whether you favor fishing, watersports or cruising all day in comfort, there's an SPX package that's perfectly suited. And with a price geared for family budgets, the 21 SPX is remarkably accessible.”
