Boat Review by: Rick Layzell
The Ranger Z519 Comanche is packed with an endless list of standard features and paired with the Evinrude G2 225 HO she’s a powerful performer on the water too. We salivated on the docks as the dealer eased this incredible looking machine down the launch ramp. The package is simply awesome to look at with a beautiful colour matched trailer underneath and that colour matched Evinrude clipped perfectly on the transom.
Jumping in to ease her away from the launch ramp I instantly felt like I was in a much bigger boat and there was not doubting that while she’s only 19’ in length the Z519C isn’t missing any of the big boat benefits. The cockpit is incredible and the high-performance steering wheel begged me to head to a tournament with the pro’s, the dash switches and gauges are in a word – sexy and with a foot pedal and hot trim system she just screams power.
The casting platform on the bow misses nothing with two rod lockers capable of accommodating up to 20, 8’ rods and the center locker benefitting from the patented Ranger Power Ventilation Rod Storage system designed to keep your gear protected and dry. The Minn Kota Fortrex trolling motor features a recessed foot pedal control and there’s a bow mounted Lowrance HDS-7T to keep you on the fish.
The rear platform features a recirculating aerated livewell with a removable divider, filter screens and an auto timer. There’s a standard multi battery charge system here for maintaining up to 4 batteries on board – plenty enough for the electronic systems on board. Ranger even took time to tuck in a couple of additional storage compartments back here for your extra gear.
Performance was quite simply incredible. Hole shots were consistently instant with the Evinrude simply leaping this hull onto plane. There’s great running results across multiple ranges with my favourite at 27 MPH, 2,920 RPM and 5.2 MPG. She rides comfortably on plane at 19 or 24 MPH – 4.7 or 5.5 MPG respectively. With early evening bringing calm waters and limited swells we gladly tested the 519 with consistent 70+ MPH results. The 225HO was happiest at 71 MPH turning 6,080 RPM and delivering an astonishing 3.4 MPG.
The Ranger Z519C is an incredibly well built, full featured fishing machine. She’s born to play, to fish and with the strength of the Evinrude she performs flawlessly at all speeds.
