Boat Review by: Rick Layzell
The Renegade Series continues to be a winner for Starcraft and with styling lines and standard fishing machine features like some of her big brothers, it’s not hard to tell why. At 16’11” overall and featuring an incredibly wide 89” beam this boat sits, feels and rides like a much bigger boat.
The interior features a pair of wood free fishing seats, lockable center and lockable in floor rod storage, and two pro capacity live wells – 18 gallons in the bow with a bait bucket and 25 gallons in the stern. The standard easy to clean vinyl cockpit flooring and casting decks should be a must on every fishing boat.
Starcraft stands behind their product with a Lifetime +6 Warranty. In essence, you get a transferrable to 2nd owner limited lifetime warranty on rivets, seams and more – ‘If they make it, it’s lifetime’. Add to that a solid 6 years on components, flooring, upholstery and electronics and you’ve got a great brand behind you ready to support your purchase.
With a 90HP four stroke on the transom there was little doubt that this combo would get up and go and it certainly did. I easily hit 44 MPH at 5,500 RPM and cruised nicely at 23 MPH. Load her up with gear, accessories and a fishing friend and find your own perfect combination. In reality this hull would pair nicely with either a 60 or a 70/75HP engine as well.
If you’re looking for your next step up in fishing boats then the Starcraft Renegade 168 in your choice of side or dual console and even a tiller option might just be the right next choice. Backed by that incredible warranty you can be comfortable that the brand is there behind you on your journey.
