The title here is not a stutter or typo; Mirage X is one of Sylvan’s six series of pontoon boats and the X5 is the Mirage X model of this review. It is not to be confused with the Mirage Cruise or Mirage Fish series. In total, Sylvan offers eighty-eight floorplans from eighteen to twenty-eight feet for 2021.

At almost twenty-six feet LOA, this X5 is the largest of three lengths in the Mirage X series and is loaded with an unusually long complement of sporty standard equipment making it a standout in its class. The standard black anodized rails, deck trim, and bimini support frame make this boat stand out from most. If you were to choose the black paint option for the tubes, it will complete the look.

Yes, you can choose from nine standard choices of panel colours but if you go for the white without an accenting colour, the result with the anodized black trim is remarkable. Unusual too is that the third centre tube is standard on the X5, along with Sylvan’s SPX PR25/20 Performance Package which includes a Performance Shield, Performance Strakes, and a larger 60-gallon gas tank. Along with this you get a maximum horsepower rating of 300 from the outboard of your choice. You now have one hot looking pontoon boat that stands out from the crowd.

There are other unique features that also make the X5 stand out. One is the huge extended stern deck cum swim platform – large enough for a pair of deck chairs or to lounge out while enjoying the water. A stainless steel folding 4-step boarding ladder is standard back here as is a removable ski pylon.

Another unique feature of the X5 is the low-profile molded sport driver’s console complete with a low-profile tinted plexiglass windscreen and storage cabinet. The upper level of the dash is molded into three divisions - the centre one displaying standard large diameter, dual function gauges with a speedometer and voltmeter on the left, and tachometer and fuel gauge on the right. Immediately below are three small diameter knockout covers providing easy installation of the optionally available trim gauge and/or digital depth finder.

To the right of centre is a section devoted to installation of the available Humminbird Helix 5 in-dash graph/GPS or a Simrad GO7 unit. To the left of centre is the control head for a standard Jensen AM/FM stereo with Bluetooth compatibility and four Jensen speakers. This may be upgraded to a JL Audio MM50 stereo. SeaStar™ hydraulic steering is standard through a snazzy soft-grip Gussi Italia® Verona tilt steering wheel. SeaStar™ power assist steering is optionally available.

A low-back swivel, sliding helm chair with flip-up armrests puts the driver in comfort. An identical chair immediately opposite on the port side just aft of the centre opening boarding gate offers additional seating options. Both chairs can be upgraded to high-back units. The balance of interior seating is provided by four contoured, bolstered, and padded lounges - one in each corner and extending down each side of the X5, providing full surround seating cum lounging. The headrest of the port bow lounge houses the standard flip-up change room which can be optionally equipped with a porta-potti. Bow and stern centred entry gates offer access for boarding.

All lounges have rotocast bases with built-in drainage channels plus full storage beneath each seat cushions. You have your choice of tan or gray upholstery colour. Standard flooring is 24-ounce sculptured carpet or you may want one of the several choices of marine vinyl or Sea Weave or Teak Weave woven vinyl. A bimini top is standard in your choice of five colours. You may want to add a power canopy, double top, full or half camper, or a playpen cover.

Docking lights are standard equipment as is a table with molded-in cupholders. An extra table kit is optionally available as is a cooler table. You may also want a gate seat which neatly fills in between the bow lounges. Several cool lighting packages are available including concealed mood lighting, lighted cupholders, underwater and/or Babitto underdeck lighting.

A dual battery system would come in handy as would the available stainless steel barbeque grill, and perhaps the lake water washdown system among other available accessories. The Sila-Shield protective coating for the tubes as well as the Big Water Edition Package or the Coastal Edition Package may all be desirable depending on where you keep and use your boat.

However you choose to equip your Sylvan Mirage X X5 pontoon boat it will be a standout in appearance and sportiness.
