Boat Review by: Richard Crowder
Lund’s redesigned Renegade series of three models of mod-V aluminum bass and crappie boats have every inch of interior space dedicated to the serious fisherman. Even more, the hull is finely tuned to get to fishing holes quickly, and once you’re there it can navigate into the shallows where the lunkers lurk.
All three Renegades ride on Lund’s proprietary IPS (Integrated Power Strake) mod-V hull design on a beam one-inch shy of eight feet. Length overall starts at 17’9” for the 1775 and increases by exactly one foot each for the 1875 and 1975.
The 1875 and 1975 models are identical in all respects, with the one foot difference in the the bow casting deck immediately ahead of the console. The center locking rod storage with ten rod capacity is 10’6” (as opposed to 9’6”) and the port and starboard dry storage compartments are one foot longer on the 1975 over the 1875. Rod storage on the 1775 is 8’1”.
The all-important draft for both models is only 12” to allow unfettered access to close-to shore feeding homes of the lunkers of your dreams. The cockpit of both boats features a pair of ProRide seats with available sliders, while behind these is a pair of flip-up jump seats within the aft casting platform. Storage is provided beneath each jump seat. Two additional ProRide seats with removable pedestals are provided for the bow and stern casting platform seat bases.
Between the two cockpit seats is a handy step up to the aft platform. Within this step is a portable Legend Igloo cooler. Centered in the aft platform is a 36”, 28-gallon aerated livewell with removable divider. Standard on the port transom is a four-step folding and telescoping boarding ladder. This ladder is optional on the 1775. Dual Trak gunwale mounting brackets for a range of handy accessories is provided on all three models.
Also common to all three models is the redesigned fiberglass driver’s console with windscreen. It also features a bracket front and center for mounting your choice of optional Humminbird or Lowrance fishfinder/GPS screen. Below the screen is the sport steering wheel, flanked on each side with a multi-function analog gauge -- speedometer with temperature to the left and tachometer with fuel to the right. A dual USB charging port and a 12-volt outlet are provided.
The analog instruments may be augmented with the recommended optional Mercury Vessel View Mobile as well as tilt steering. A similarly sleek, protective, and removable port side console with safety grab bar and lockable glove box is optionally available for the 1875 and 1975. Easy to clean vinyl flooring is common to all three models, or you can choose the optional gray Lund Guard flooring to which you may then add Marine Mat.
Forward of the helm console on all three models is the relatively large bow casting platform with a large single dry storage compartment on the port side and a pair of them on the starboard side. The starboard platform may be optionally converted to a livewell. All in-deck storage compartments utilize bubble seal rubber gasketing to help prevent water intrusion.
On-the-go rod storage is provided on all three models, both on the foredeck as well as the port side of the cockpit next to the passenger seat. Built into the foredeck at the bow is a convenient recessed area for placement of the foot control for an optional trolling motor. Wiring harness and plug are provided as is a bow trim switch. A pair of additional pedestal bow seat bases are optionally available.
What differentiates the 1775 from its larger siblings is a smaller cockpit and seating arrangement. Standard seating is two fixed seats in what Lund calls a bench seating arrangement, even though these two seats are really individual contoured bucket style seats. The seat bases flip up for access to storage below. A similar fixed third center seat mounted over the step-up to the aft casting platform is available. The same large livewell is centered on the aft casting deck and is flanked in the 1775 with a pair of insulated storage compartments with drains which can also double as coolers.
Mercury outboard power for the 1775 ranges from 50 to 90 horsepower; from 75 to 115 for the 1875; and from 115 to 150 for the 1975. Top speed with the highest horsepower for each model is reported as 42, 46, and 49 mph respectively. With this available motor selection, there will be one just right for your own requirements.
Lund offers four standard hull colours as well as your choice of standard charcoal or red graphics packages. You may then choose from three selections of optional graphics add-ons. Also choose from 15 Humminbird or from 14 Lowrance bow or console fishing/GPS screens. You will also have your pick from 18 optional Minn Kota trolling motors of different shaft lengths and power.
You will probably want to select one of the two, three, or four-bank Minn Kota battery chargers and perhaps the Kicker KMC1 stereo package. There is a huge selection of SportTrak accessories available as well, and you may want some bike seats with AirRide pedestals. Other choices include hydraulic steering with some engines, tackle trays, and a black painted or galvanized bunk trailer to which additional accessories can be added.
Whichever Lund Renegade you choose will deliver a sharp, crisp fishing-focused package that will get you to your favourite spots efficiently and in style.
