Boat Review by: Richard Crowder
This 222 CC is the smallest in the 10 model fleet of center and dual consoles for this Williston, Florida builder who is celebrating over 50 years of success. The 222 CC model size has been in Blackfin’s lineup for a number of years, albeit with different nomenclature and has been refreshed as needed. For 2025, this model is the latest iteration and boasts an outstanding list of standard equipment illustrating how Blackfin has remained competitive over the years.
Both this 222 Center Console and its sister 232 Dual Console ride on a 21’6” LOA hull with an 8’6” beam and a 20-degree deep-vee hull design. This hull utilizes Blackfin’s ACT (Advanced Carbon Fiber Technology) hull laminates with CRT (Core Rigid Technology) of a molded composite stringer and grid system with closed cell high density structural foam flotation. A vinylester barrier coat is standard. The bow flare and deep freeboard should result in a relatively dry and smooth ride when the going gets rough.
The white powder-coated aluminum leaning post supports well-padded dual helm seats with forward flip-up bolsters. Beneath these seats is dedicated storage for the standard 45-quart Yeti Tundra carry-on cooler. Molded-in non-skid footrests in the bottom of the helm console provide added support when seated. A good-sized acrylic windscreen provides weather protection for the driver and passenger. Ahead of the driver on the left side of the console is a standard sporty tilting stainless steel steering wheel with power knob and urethane grip.
The upper part of the dash is divided into two horizontal sections. The upper section in white gel coat houses the standard digital engine monitoring readouts plus the ability to house your optional choice of up to a pair of 12-inch screens. Blackfin offers an electronics option package of a Garmin 8610 GPS/chartplotter plus a Garmin 315 VHF radio.
The lower horizontal part of the upper dash is black and contains all of the necessary lighted DC switches. The lower more slanted section of dash where the steering wheel is mounted also houses the engine binnacle control, the control for the standard auto-retracting trim tabs with indicators, the head unit of the standard Fusion AM/FM satellite-ready stereo with MP-3 adapter and complete with four JL speakers with lighting and a four-channel amplifier. A pair of cupholders are at this level on the right side end of the dash as well as a pair of dual 12-volt/USB outlets. Below these is a lockable glove box.
A white powder-coated aluminum framework supports a fiberglass hardtop with four red/white overhead LED lights, a pair of LED spreader lights and a pair of the aforementioned JL audio speakers. Black powder coating is optionally available for the aluminum framework for both the leaning post seating and the hardtop. Four hardtop rod holders are also optionally available as is hardtop underside colour-matching to the hull sides or bootstripe.
The aft-cockpit features four gunnel-mounted rodholders plus three more across the transom. Beneath the fully surrounding wide coaming bolsters are a pair of horizontal rodholders on each side of the cockpit along with stainless steel toe rails. A starboard side transom door leads to the respectfully sized and integrated walk-across swim platform with covered telescoping swim ladder on the starboard side section.
A plush and thickly upholstered three-person bench seat with storage below is centred on the transom. A removable jump seat is to the port side of this transom seat and aft of this jump seat is an insulated and lit 18-gallon baitwell with a one-inch thick poly lid. A raw water washdown faucet is provided and optionally available is a pressurized cold fresh water system with transom shower and washdown faucet. Blue/white LED courtesy lighting is found throughout the 222 CC.
Moving forward, on the front face of the helm console is a forward-facing seat mounted on the hinged door opening to a large in-console storage area/change room/head compartment when fitted with the optionally available Porta-Potti pumpout toilet. Within this console room is dedicated storage for the optionally available multi-purpose bow table with Sea Dek inlay and pedestal with vertical and side-mount base which doubles as a foredeck casting platform.
Bow seating is U-shaped with insulated and lit and drained and finished storage compartments beneath each side seat cushion. A recessed gunnel-mounted stainless steel grab rail serves each of the side bow seats as does a pair of drink holders in addition to swivel removable backrests to accommodate forward-facing bow lounging. On the foredeck is an anchor locker with hinged lid. In-floor storage is found just ahead of the forward-facing console bow seat.
Additional notable standard equipment includes pull-up cleats, a custom Blackfin 5-gallon bucket, and a battery charger with deck plug. Notable additional optionally available items include both bow and stern portable sun shades, console and leaning post covers in a choice of four colours, a Sea Dek helm floor pad, Sea Dek swim platform inlay, RGB LED underwater lights, a removable ski tow pylon, and Gemlux outriggers. You may also want coloured hull sides and matching boot stripe.
Power-wise, Blackfin offers a Mercury 250 or max 300 horsepower XL 4-Stroke in standard black or optional white. Factory performance tests show the 300 to produce a top speed of 55.1 mph at 6370 RPM while an optimal cruising speed was determined to be 30.6 mph at 4000 RPM.
Yes the Blackfin 222 CC may be the smallest in its lineup but it packs a punch much above its size class and offers both fishing and family cruising aficionados with the features they love most.
