The Starcraft Titan series of two models of fishing boats; the 186 and the 176, the latter the subject of this review, form part of seven series of multiple models in Starcraft’s Fishing category of aluminum boats. Starcraft also offers dozens of aluminum boats in its Utility, Jon, and Pontoon categories plus dozens of others in its fibreglass categories of Runabouts, Deck Boats, and Surf Boats.

To clarify, the Titan 186 is not simply an elongated version of the 176, but is wider and deeper and has a twenty-five-inch transom versus the twenty-inch transom on the 176, has a larger fuel tank and is rated for more horsepower. The two floorplans are very similar though with most of the extra length in the 186 being in the bow area ahead of the three piece full walk-thru windshield.

The Titan 176 is built on Starcraft’s riveted aluminum relatively deep-V Power-Trac Hull® utilizing its Torsion Beam Construction in its stringer system and with a one-piece .100 gauge bottom, .080 gauge hull sides, plus double-riveted chine and transom seams. Your choice of Blue, Red, or White twice baked urethane paint is available for the exterior hull sides.

Three high back bucket-style well padded and upholstered fishing seats are provided standard and may be utilized in any of the six in-floor seat bases provided; four in the cockpit and one each on the bow and stern casting platforms. Two fold-up jump seats for extra passengers, one on each side of the stern casting platform come standard and when folded down, form part of this platform.

Centered on the stern platform is a standard 25 (US) gallon aerated livewell while a second standard equipment larger 38 (US) gallon aerated livewell is centered within the bow casting platform. Also within this bow platform, one on each side immediately ahead of the two consoles are dry storage compartments complete with built-in raised lips around the perimeter of the opening lids to help keep stored items dry.

Sea Weave flooring is standard in the cockpit while full vinyl covers both the bow and stern casting platforms. A cockpit lockable in-floor storage compartment centered between the seat bases holds six fishing rods or watersports accessories such as waterskis or tubes. A second standard lockable rod storage locker suitable for five rods is found within the bow casting deck and accessible from the front immediately below the opening centre section of the windshield.

The modern, attractive and functional molded driver’s helm console with molded-in eyebrow to shade the instruments from direct sunlight offers a sport steering wheel with standard hydraulic steering plus standard instrumentation including tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge, and volt meter.

A 12-volt accessory outlet is standard as is an AM/FM Bluetooth compatible stereo complete with MP3 port. The passenger helm console features a lockable glove box plus a molded-in drinkholder plus a grab handle. Additional storage is found beneath both consoles. Courtesy lighting is standard.

A whole range of optionally available accessories can help make your Titan 176 more pleasurable for increased fishing enjoyment and/or recreational family outings depending on your boating desires. Depending on your preferences for brand and on-water activities, you can choose Evinrude E-TEC or Mercury Four Stroke outboard power up to 150 horsepower.

For more family-type enjoyment for cruising or watersports activities, choose the ski pylon, stainless steel 3-step boarding ladder or bow cushion set. To enhance both family and fishing enjoyment, choose the captain and/or passenger seat upgrades or simply add seat sliders. You can also choose an additional fishing seat, either upgraded or not. You may want a stereo upgrade in the form of a Sirius-ready PRV350 Infinity stereo.

A Fisherman’s top is always desirable for either activity to extend the season and you can add to that a full canvas enclosure with bow cover, side, aft, drop, and walk-thru curtains. A snap-on cover and trailerable ratchet cover are also available. An All-Weather Package provides a mooring cover, snap-in carpet, and bimini top with visor.

A sonar and depth gauge will enhance all forms of on-water enjoyment. You may also want an on-board battery charger. For real fishing aficionado’s, go for the 12/24 volt bow-mount trolling motor or the Deck-Mounted Aluminum Tracks with plastic step pads. You may want one of the several Fishing Packages including the Power Package which includes a Humminbird Helix 5 Sonar plus a 70 PD trolling motor. Six choices of Bert’s Custom fishing packages from a Starter Package up to Pro and Big Water Packages plus a downrigger Package are also available. Check them out.

The Starcraft Titan 176 provides flexibility for fishing enthusiasts and family recreational enjoyment and with a relatively deep-V hull for smooth riding when the going gets rough.
