Boat Review by: Richard Crowder
Not only is the 352 Fisherman the newest and largest of Wellcraft’s eight models in its Center Console series starting at sixteen feet and intended as a big water fishing machine but it is also outfitted to accommodate family cruising and even overnighting for two.
Wellcraft has over sixty years of experience building legendary offshore big water boats and this history is clearly visible in the 352 Fisherman. Its ten-foot, eight-inch beam, deep forefoot, and extremely deep-vee twenty-three degree deadrise hull equips it to take on the biggest of the big waters in comfort.
And to get to your favourite fishing hole or that distant favourite anchorage quickly, you can choose between twin or triple outboard power from either Mercury or Yamaha up to a maximum rating of 1275 total horsepower! That will get you triple Yamaha XF 425 XSA engines and then, whether Mercury or Yamaha, you can get them in white and with joystick control.
Three high back helm chairs with flip-up forward bolsters and fold-down armrests face a business-like hi-tech dash console. The seat bottom of the driver’s centre position helm chair also folds down to allow stand up driving. A tilting stainless steel destroyer-style wheel with standard hydraulic steering and power assist makes driver control effortless. The dash face can be equipped with the optional twin Garmin 8622 (yes, twenty-two inches each) screens to which you can add radar, satellite weather, FLIR night vision and a VHF radio. Trim tabs with LED indicators are standard as is the T-top (hardtop).
Additional passenger seating is provided with both a single and a two-person fold-down bench seat across the transom. A starboard side transom door provides access to the integrated swim platform while a portside in-hull entry door provides great boarding from a dock or to assist in landing that super-size fish or for better access for diving. A retractable boarding ladder on the swim platform is standard and an optional ladder is available for this side door.
The top rear portion of the transom is outfitted with several rod holders while the top centre portion of the transom features a molded-in baitwell to which you can optionally add a chiller package to use it as a cooler. The top portside of the transom provides a sink with pullout faucet to use as a transom shower.
Behind the helm seats is a cutting station with a unique 32-gallon “aquarium-style” livewell with curved glass front, light, and timer within the lower port side of this station. You may optionally choose a drawer-type refrigerator and/or an electric grill for this station. The fold-down cover of this station serves as one of the steps up to the aforementioned optional upper control station.
A double-wide seat with fold-down armrests and built-in cooler is on the forward face of the console and side bolsters surround the bow area. Choose the single or multiple bow cushions to provide U-shaped seating in the bow and if you also choose the bow table, a filler cushion to fit it will turn the bow area into a giant sunpad. An anchor locker plus anchor windlass is standard.
An entry door in the port side of the center console leads to a cabin below equipped with a corian countertop with sink, changing room with skylight, porcelain electric head with holding tank, wood flooring, and a V-berth. Additional notable standard equipment includes a stereo system, both dockside power and water, battery charger, raw water washdown, removable cooler, a pair of in-floor insulated fishboxes with macerators, and an electronics box, LED lights, spreader lights, and rod holders for the T-top.
Notable optional equipment includes a generator, Seakeeper3 gyro stabilizer system, underwater lights, air conditioning/heating for both the cabin and helm, Ash or Dune reed flooring for the cockpit, a mat package for the helm floor, a stereo upgrade package to give you JL amplifier, speakers, and subwoofer, Eisenglass spray shields (side curtains) for the T-top, a sail shade for the bow area, plus a console and helm seat cover.
The standard hull colour is Wellcraft White and there are eleven additional single or combination colours from which to choose along with a couple of graphics packages. You may also want black powder coating for the T-Top support structure, etc. instead of the standard white powder coating.
Once you have your 352 Fisherman outfitted the way you want it, you will have an offshore big water boat that will get the job done and will make you the centre of attention wherever you go.
